Would be cool to be able to use elevators inside multi-story buildings. Change the up/down lever to an up, stop, down lever.

and an auto “down” return, but i doubt i will get that 
A hand crank and character cranking it, either yourself or a sad thrall would be fun. You go up by holding down one button or go down with another. You stop at any level by not pressing buttons. The lever at the bottom causes the elevator to slide back to bottom.
