I’m a new player of Age of Conan but a long time player of Conan exile and die haard fan of Two guns Bob’s Conan Stories since nearly half a century. I started AoC 2 days ago and I think I need some help because I’m a little lost. For now I’m f2p and my only character is a CImerrian assassin who reached lvl 13, nearly 14.
What are you having issues with? Tortage is very well developed, you should be able to reread the quest journal and decipher your goals pretty easily. Asking in NPH chat should usually get response, although late Sunday night US is pretty much the deadest time of game play. -Mike
Thanks for the answers. I play in Europe so I’m unlikely to be logged in at the US times.
I’ve played many mmos, including SWTOR, FF14, The Secret World (before it became Legend), NeverWInter and a few others. I like to t have tips on the classe I play and a walkthrough for levelling, so I don’t do useless things and doesn’t wrong choices. Most of the links I found are dead, so I ask here.
Just do the available quests, in Torateg you can either just skip quests you outleveled at day time if you want to, or check in the achievement system if you want to do them because you favor to have them for achievements. Do not skip the night time questline, just follow through, when leaving Tortage that way, you will get a nice starter weapon.
After Torateg you will be ported to your cultural starter area (depinding on your race), and from that moment on you can move freely in the world (keep questing in your races low level area and exploring the HUBs Old Tarantia, Khemi and Connarch would be my recomendation).
You can not make a wrong choice at this time until lvl 80, choices only have real consequences in Khitai (Rise of the Godslayer Extension Pack). The game is pretty straight forward, just level up wherever you like, You will not “miss” anything, or better: you will miss much, but that is not important. There is more leveling content than you actually need to get to lvl 80. Play your class, check what new things you got at every level up.
Only expeption: while following your Destiny Quest (goal: removing the Mark of Acheron) you will be asked three times if you want to have higher dps, or something like mama/stamina regeneration. Always choose dps.
And if you have questions, it might be wise to actually ask questions;).
Thank you.
Totage hints: for your Nighttime While Sands Island & Volcano quests: Kill EVERYTHING on the map, don’t just do the quest requirements, but go around and wipe the map clean. You’ll earn 1 to 1 1/2 levels that way.
General Sin advice. I’ve played a few and it’s not my most liked class. I find as a melee fighter the 2 daggers are kind of weak so I push the crossbow aspect of the class. As a bowman it’s not too bad and then you have the daggers for backup.
Be careful with your pulls and try to drag only 1 or 2 at a time.
Other than that, take your time, read the quest write up’s and have fun with them. Pick the off the wall answers and enjoy the back and forth you get from the NPC’s. Don’t worry if they shut you down, just click on them again and start the conversation over again.
Thank you. I’m going to restart with a ranger. And perhaps I’ll try barbarian next. I’d like to see how work rogue classes on the first 20 level before I choose one for main character. I liked the assassin but I died often each time I pulled more than 1 or 2 mobs about my level or close. And there’s places where it’s impossible to not pull that much, even with using a crossbow. It"s fun to play.
My main’s a ranger that I’ve been playing since 2009. Fun class but it takes a bit to learn to play it correctly.
You have 2 ways during your early levels: Pull with bow and then switch to sword which is probably best for someone brand new. OR stick it out with the bow during the entire fight.
Unlike many others I make use of the general section of the feats panel and put puts into upping my armor & protection numbers in order to be able to survive those bow on 1 slugging matches. Later I put points into the traps so I can shoot, have the target get stuck in my trap while I fall back and drop another and just repeat til he’s dead and never was able to engage me.
Thanks for the tips about the ranger. Usually I’m not bad at kiting opponents if there’s enough room for it.
Each time I restart I’m better at leveling. I reached Tortage at lvl 6 and discovered there’s a chest underwater near the wrecked ships on the starting beach.
I restarted, once again, as a barbarian and on the PvE server, I was on the PvP server before. I enjoyed playing a ranger mostly because I died a lot less than playing an assassin, but there’s quest I didn’t finish before leaving Tortage. Tortage Underhalls is very tough in solo when I tried it at lvl 16-17 and after dying a few time I gave up.
Now as barbarian it seems a lot easy. I don’t know if it’s because the PvE server is easier than the PvP server. Or if it’s because the barbarian is better for melee fight than the two other rogue’s classes. Or if it’s because I bought a beginner’s pack at level 5 with Crom Coins. But I didn’t die once before I entered the Underhalls at lvl 16.
I really enjoy the gameplay with a sword in each hands. But I’m still not sure wich stance is better. The explanation ext for each doesn’t really give clue. Both raise melee damages and beside that I wonder what the difference ?
Both servers are the same difficulty just barbarian is a much more tanky rogue and can hit multiple enemies….reaver stance is for damage and the other one is for survival but barb is a lot of fun and has some amazing CC and combo animations aswell as churn out a lot of dps late game
My barbarian is level 30 now. Levelling is tough. I noticed two boos in the valley of Conacht that seems unkillable. A spider near the camp where there’s a resurrection point. Her level is marked as 24 or 25 but when I tried her at level 27 and again at level 28 I was unable to lower her HPs below 50%. I Tried in both stance but it didn’t change the result. I wonder if I do something wrong. The mob spider around are level 24 - 25 and I had no problem to kill all of them.
The other boss is a big vanir, Thorgval, I need his head for a quest. It seems to be level 26, I didn’t see it clearly since I was fighting 5 or 6 vanir mobs level 25 - 26. It’s impossible to pull him alone since he’s staying with 2 other vanir who fight with him. And other mobs comes after the fight starts. I was able to kill the mobs but it seemed I couldn’t do real dammages to the boss. I never put him under 90% HPs. It was like all my combos had no effect. Of course I died.
The positive point is that having to kill many mobs to get to those boss at each retry gives XPs.
Those mobs in that area of Coalls Valley are elite mobs meant for groups. In all starter low level areas (exept Wild Lands of Zelata if I remember correctly) you will find such an elite area. In the original ui somethink looking like spikes or horns at their names when you target them indicate their status - 2 or 3 means stay away if you are not a good 20 levels or more higher than they are, or kill them with a group. Unfortunatly that makes all the quests in those areas impossibel to do solo.
Thank you. I tried Torgvall again, this time I was able to see mobs and boss level and that 25 or 26. And on the second try He was alone, but he destroyed me in a few hits while I barely downed his HPs to 94%.
Ok, I put this quest away and will do it when I’m well above lvl 40 - 45. To bad there’s no mention that the quest could only be completed with a group.
I finally reached the level 40 and can learn a crafting skill. Witch ones are useful for a barbarian playing mostly in solo ?
Gems and alchemy are simple and sometimes useful for the pots and generating guild renown. Crafting gear for yourself isn’t really useful as you can buy off trader or ask someone to craft for you on NPH. The good recipes are all random drops and generally hard to find as a result. -Mike
Thank you. I choose gem cutter and Alchemy but I wonder what to do with the gems crafted. As for Alchemy the recipes have components that drop from NPC, except I haven’t get any so far.
You can sell gems on trader, and check the vendor NPC in the villages of the resource zones, Potain, PLS, Lachiesh Plains for those resources. -Mike
