All my knowledge skills gone but the knowledge points are gone too so I can’t relearn anything

Hi Funcom,

I’m playing solo and the game keeps crashing every few hours for this whole month. Each crash usually resets with something missing - thralls, items, sometimes my buildings disappear. I have 800 hours invested in the game so this really sucks.

But this week was worse when a crash resulted in my characters knowledge skills, both from leveling up and from finding skills in the world all vanished. But the knowledge points show they have been used so I can’t relearn anything. I also can’t use any crafting tables anymore so I can’t do much in the game now. Please help me recover my lost skills knowledge or even just reset my knowledge points so I can relearn them. This game is so unplayable now as any further hours I put in just seems to be wiped out with every crash.

Can you please help me?

information you filled out should now be listed below.
Please copy this info and paste it into a new report. Thank you!

i was going to say you can craft a potion at the alchemy table that will reset your points and let you reallocate them. but if you cant even use benches then it seems your game may be beyond saving.

i play on PC so cant really help with playstation specific stuff. im not even sure how they save the games on that platform or if you can restore from a backup.

sorry :frowning:, it may even be an incompatibility between the save game and the new update. best to wait for funcom to give a proper answer.

Greetings @Waterboy ,

Thank you for sharing this!

Do you have an uploaded save game to the cloud that you can download and see if it’s working? If not, can you open a new save and see if it’s working?

So, first the good news: I have had this exact same problem with the PS5 and know how to fix it.

The bad news: I have had to reinstall the game – and I only have about 300 hours into it so I’m still figuring out what to do and if there is a workaround. As far as I know, this happens around every update/patch. You reinstall the game, for me, at least, it works completely smoothly. I’m still trying to figure out if I can keep the same save, or if this is going to be one of those “restart the game every update”. It’s not a good look. Hopefully, though, you can keep your save and it’ll get back to not crashing every time you play (as it did with me).

True! My only workaround to this is not to play for more than 2 hours straight and then close the game slowly, hopping that it won’t crash, restart the console and continue playing. It must have to do something with our console ram, i cannot give any other explanation (but for God’s sake, i don’t mean that this is our fault, it’s something that Funcom and Sony should work with).

Undeniable fact! Most of the times, if you are lucky enough, you’ll just find your character in a previous situation but your thralls in the situation you left them before the crash.

This stopped happening to me when i started my workaround, 2h gaming, restart and repeat.

I wish from the bottom of my heart Funcom allows Zendesk interactions even in single player modes.

I personally stopped investing feelings on single player mode, right now in this session i play with the 59 attribute point bug, i don’t give a dime because i know that soon enough i will start a new session anyway.
But, these issues both on exile lands and Siptah (worst problems and more frequent) must be fixed sometime, it’s just not right!

This is probably the worst part. I actually spent quite a bit of money to get all of the DLC, and while I can reinstall and get it working without bugs, it’s still a chore and I feel the exact same way: I don’t even get upset at it, I just don’t have any emotional investment in the game nor expectation to reach certain areas of the map. ( I just had a corrupted save in the Highlands where I had spent hours relocating a base, oh well. )

Omg!
My fellow exile the only way to enjoy adventuring in this game, is to go online unfortunately. Of course this experience is a double blade but at least you ain’t going to loose progress or whatever else. I remember going online and watch my “spots” builded saying oh no!
Soon enough the whole map became my spot however, so no problem .
If you wish the standard experience official servers are the key.
If you’re looking easy servers to understand the game, many private servers exist.
Stop punishing your self on single player , until Funcom fix it, join online to have fun :hugs:.

My internet is absolutely horrendous. It’ll drop to 1 MBS, it’s literally unplayable for me online. They may need to change the ‘online play optional’ part to save people some time and agony in the future. I usually just reinstall the game and everything goes back to working, but it’s a super pain.

I was playing pvp and my internet was dropping on 350kbs :rofl::rofl:. Trust me i know :metal:.
Yes single player must be fixed, the whole game actually, but let’s start with single player, you’re absolutely correct, it’s painful.
Thanks for chatting fellow exile @MileenaUltra, it’s really nice you joined :metal:.

It doesn’t get much better with decent internet or a ps5 unfortunately. I mean, it does logically, but my point is that it breaks so much with updates, and the lag can get bad on occasion. They poorly optimized the PS version unfortunately, so we’re stuck with what we got. As for the single player game getting corrupted, that use to happen to me regularly back in the day when I built too much. It was annoying at first, but then I got use to it and would just restart every so often. I only play online and use offline/co-op for build planning now. However, if that’s your only option, that sucks terribly.

Absolutely, and it is my only option, sadly. I’m not even building that much – what I’ve found, though, is that after every update/patch if you reinstall it pretty much runs flawlessly. The problem is that I haven’t tested it on a save file (reinstalling, then using the same save file). So, next update I’ll have more data.

Likewise, it’s also nice to know that I’m not the only one in the boat, so to speak.

Good luck. At least you got the ps5 to help with some of the issues.

Hi @MileenaUltra and welcome. It is always great to see newer members in our community.

Fellow Singleplayer here much like yourself. And largely for the same reasons.

It is certainly possible, but it requires some ‘upkeep’ in a manner of speaking. I have been playing Conan Exiles since launch time at first on ps4, then later making the switch to ps5. And I can say that I have managed to keep the same character/profile throughout this entire time. However, there were some very close calls in which I stood at the precipise of loosing my saved data. And not being especially proficient with technology, were it not for my dear friend @Barnes, it would have almost certainly been lost. Purely for the sake of context, I ran affoul of data corruption the first time, and a cascade failure the second. So how best ensure the surviial of our game saves?

Whenever I have this conversation with newer members, I always recommend this. It is absolutely vital that you back up your save data periodically to either a USB or Cloud services through PS Plus (or both). I know that this is not an ideal solution, and we should not have to. But as these sorts of occurrences are not uncommon, it is imperative that we have a contingency to fall back on for should the worst come to pass. And while there is no ‘go to’ for frequency, I personally suggest backing up to them at least every 1 month, or more often if you feel a little uneasy. But multiple options (i.e.- a couple of different USBs or a rotation of these methods) is the best, and safest bet. Not ideal, but at least you are only potentially losing a couple of days/weeks of progress as opposed to starting again at your beginnings.

IF the worst comes to pass and you or any other member does find an issue with their save file data there are a couple of options us playstation folk have. 1) as you suggested, try to uninstall then reinstall. Or alternatively 2) rebuild the database in the playstation menu.

Agree. While crashes for playstation can be sporadic, we seem to be going through a real rough patch at the moment, hopefully it will get a hotfix in the near future.

Thanks a ton for those tips – I’ll have to look into the cloud storage options for this game specifically. I enjoy the game a lot and (as admitted above) have spent a little too much money on it so if that can smooth out some things, that’ll be perfect. Thank you again.

Most welcome @MileenaUltra. Apologies for restating the obvious if you already knew all of this. But whether by USB or Cloud via PS Plus, backing up your saves will give your data a safety net. I pretty much ended up getting PS plus just for Conan Exiles.

@Waterboy are you playing in Singleplayer mode? Because if so it is Singleplayer mode as a whole. We are experiencing an chronicity of freezes and crashes at the moment regardless of whether online or offline at the time. I play Singleplayer, and we have the same issues on ps5, so it is not just your ps4. Please repost your original post here too my dude:

A Funcom CM created this merged thread, so it would appear that the issue is on the radar. With any luck the more reports we get compiled in the one place, the greater the probability it will garner attention and priority.
