Increased Frequency of Crashes and Freezes in Singleplayer

Basic Info:

Platform: PlayStation 5
Issue Type: Crash & Freeze
Game Mode: Single Player
Server Type: Singleplayer
Map: Exiled Lands & Isle of Siptah
Server Name: N/A

Bug Description:

Since the induction of the Age of Heros I have noticed a greater frequency of both freezes and crashes while playing Conan Exiles. It now occurs in virtually every play session on my Singleplayer game. When the game freezes I am unable to quit via the in game menus, and must instead hold the PS button and quit to the Playstation’s dashboard to escape it. The crashes are colloquially speaking ‘more of the same’, and after gameplay seizing abruptly, it shall simply display the error code then return me to the dashboard. There is some variance between freeze/crash times, but they will usually occur within a 10 minute to 1 hour timeframe from log in time.

Bug Reproduction:

Hard to pin it down. Play the game, go about ones usual tasks and then watch it occur. Sorry I cannot be more helpful.

Bug Description:

I’m playing in single player and the game crashes a lot. Most recently it’s when I was trying to give clothing to a barkeeper. But it’s crashed other times doing other activities like walking around. It’ll crash a few times and then the save is corrupted(won’t load at all anymore). Then I have to load a previous save from the ps cloud in order to keep playing and I usually lost building progress.

Once the save is corrupted, which happens after a few crashes, the next time I play the following day, the game stops loading halfway through the loading bar and I can’t load into the game anymore.

It makes the game unplayable because if I can recover a save, I can’t trust that anything I build will stay when the next crash happens.

Bug Reproduction:

Play single player and do various tasks. Try giving armor to a barkeeper before placing them into the bar. If I can remember anything else specific that has caused this, I’ll update this note!

It could have also started when I launched into coop and my wife joined me.

Another evening and I regret to say another freeze and subsequent crash. This was less than 10 minutes in and simply navigating my way around my base. And for the record, no the base is not exceedingly large.

Singleplayer mode really needs some love. Or preferable again, it really needs an optimization update for the ps5.

This is something you and @stelagel really helped me to understand as a player who prefers multiplayer and on PC.

I think more communication regarding the future of consoles, specifically PS and the stability of singleplayer is required.

on the back of the game box I bought in 2018 it says online play OPTIONAL. My single-player game is totally broken. Game freeze and crashes so often progress is a lost cause. My other games don’t do this, just Conan.

It’s still playable offline, you just lose access to the bazaar items

offline it still crashes freezes/online freezes crashes. single player no longer works. the people who work on this game can be called a lot of things but competent is not one of them. if they manage to fix this it will be the last download of this game for me.

Are you getting any error codes when it crashes?

yes, when it crashes but not when it freezes.

What’s the code?

I played the game just to get the code. took all of about 2 min. CE-34878-0. I’ve sent at least a dozen reports to sony. call me old fashioned but when I purchase a product I kind of expect it to work.

I have now developed the same problem as yoursel @1984. Singleplayer mode can no longer be played at all at this point.

No amount of communication will change the fact that people are unable to use the product they purchased.
Furthermore, that the performance on the platforms this game is marketed for continues to get worse.

This game was, as has been noted, not sold as an always online game.
If they push updates that break the game on a platform they sell it on, it’s Cyberpunk 2077 time.
They need to either cease development on the previous gen console versions (oh wait, there is no PS5 version) after they get it back to a playable state, or it should be refund and delisting time.

By this point and with how often the updates break the game on PS4, customers should just go directly to Sony to see if they can get the CDProjektRed treatment applied.

Mind you, this isn’t exactly a Funcom issue directly.
Not entirely.
Funcom outsources their middleware (the process of porting a game from PC to a Console). But they aren’t very vigilant about it. A few years ago they were surprised to discover their middleware go to company had been bought out by a competitor and no longer cared to work on Conan Exiles.
This is funny because it’s around the same time the mention that the majority of players are on Console came about.

Unless they start doing the middleware in house, they are very much in a situation where they have vanishingly little control. That’s the risk of outsourcing. You save your own resources, but your reputation is now in the hands of mercenaries.
