Aquilonian Artisan Table - Silk From Grubs... Where?

Hi all! Really enjoying this community!

I was going through the Thrall placements and the extra abilities they add to various different tables when I saw:

Aquilonian Artisan Table
“Tanner - Increased crafting speed and “Extract Silk” recipe to make Silk from Fat Grubs.” at the OFFICIAL Wiki:

So I immediately went and spent my money on the “Jewel of the West Pack” DLC which has the Aquilonian Artisan Table! But after adding the Tanner Thrall there doesn’t seem to be any recipe…

What gives? False advertisement (very uncool), or is it in the works (I can wait), or do I need to do something different (newbie here!)?

@TeleTesselator , It has to be a named Tanner, only named Tanners can do this in all the artisan tables but since Wiki says it is faster then trust them, they speak only the truth. Aquilonian dlc is awesome, you will really enjoy it

As @stelagel says, named Tanner in an Artisan Bench. If you want some advice, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll find a named Tanner in one of the camps outside the stone Pirate Ship, The Black Galleon.

The camps are much easier to work through if you’re leveling, and a Tier 4 (T4)/Named Tanner will appear with a great deal of regularity.

Keep one piece of compost in your compost heap and you’ll generate grubs. 50 max per heap. You get a lot of silk over time this way. Good luck and happy hunting, Exile!

Yeah, but then you gotta run into a nest full of icky spiders.

Besides, depending on where your base is located, it just might well be more convenient to use grubs if you’ve already got the compost heap(s), bench and tanner.

So true. This is for sure the best way to farm silk. I remember I didn’t knew that farming spiders with sickle was giving you gossamer and I was picking it up one by one from the ground, plus for some reason it took me a lot of time before I try the 3head spider boss. My dear @TeleTesselator if you are not afraid spiders (I met a lot of players with arahnophobia) use the example of @Ragnaguard, kill the spiders and farm them with sickle, you will get a lot of gossamer and a good lvl up for your thrall. The spider boss there is far the easiest 3head world boss in the game. She got only 2 moves and she is very slow, I find more painful to kill all the small spiders around her than her. Don’t forget to take a set of daggers with you to stack her 20 bleeding, farm her with sickle to get a lot of gossamer and demon blood, good luck exile :+1:t6:

@Ragnaguard , almost 3 years and I never tried to do that, damn I am still learning, omg, thank you buddy :+1:t6:

@Ragnaguard , I never did, I farmed the spiders, especially the bosses :joy::joy::joy:, now that we can have legendary from lvl 0, I always start in a server by killing the great spiders with stone daggers and axe

Edit.
A picture tell 1.000 words, my first hour in 8080.

I’m playing the Isles of Whatever… There is no sink-hole. But yes, If I want to battle spiders, skeletons, and those glowing dudes - plus a few humans - then there is plenty of webs. I get about 1000pc with the Star Metal Scythe each 20min. outing. And it starts growing back in yeah, just about the same amount of time so if I’m patient then it’s endless. But I wanna grow it from wormy-dudes!

For me, using grubs, is nearly zero effort. Just pick them up when there’s 50. It’s bit like harvesting honey - it’s just always there.

Except it is a 10 to 1 ratio, so in my opinion, unless you have LOTS of grubs it isn’t really worth it. You are correct that it is so much easier to just harvest webs and spiders.

2,000 at a time. So that’s 200 silks every 30 to 45 minutes or so. Without doing anything other than pressing E followed by a shift-click… 40 times.

But of course, first I need to find the thrall. :stuck_out_tongue:

is it even possible at this point? my grubs decay in compost bins like 10 sec after spawning…

Yeah, it’s possible… NP in fact. I was using grubs to catch fish in order to make oil for hardened leather. Same, 2000 at a time but I had to also place them in 40 fish traps. By the time I got to the last fish trap there weren’t 50 though - usually 43 to 45. So 5 to 7 died in that time. And, they stayed alive in the fish traps while the fishies were being caught. I assume the bench will be the same. Prolly lose 5 to 10 while the silks are being made. Not sure yet, as I haven’t done it yet.

Have fun. . . lol. :bug:

Yeah, a little better than running around to 200 spider egg nodes, being bothered and interrupted by lame spiders, and having to spend star metal or hardened steel to repair the sickle every 5 to 7 minutes - not to mention spending a aloe potion every 5th spider. Not more fun by much, but scrubs should be a little better.

That said, I still haven’t yet found a named tanner so… :stuck_out_tongue:

Then you can cook your scrubs. No need for a named cook. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

What?

Oh, that… k…
Yeah, I had that in EL I think it was… never made one though… All I ever made and ate was just plain cooked meat and sometimes Lasting Meal when trekking far. I know they “do things” but I always found it better/easier to drink a reset potion and reconfigure my attributes - if ever i needed something like that. So just attribute edits and potions mostly. Rhino Head Soup was nice now and then for on the spot encumbrance… :stuck_out_tongue:
