Bench Thralls Walking Through Sempemaru

I logged on. Found out that one of my bench thralls was not at my base. My bench thrall was on the other side of Sempemaru almost an entire grid away from my house. I got out there in time to watch this thrall walk by the 3 alchemists by the fire and then save this thrall from the Thugs as he was returning home. Home is Temple Quarter on the other side of Sempemaru.

Not sure why this guy was walking out that way but he wasn’t going towards any bench piece of mine that’s part of Living Settlement. I only have the one base on one side of Sempemaru.

I am not sure why he was more than half of a grid away from home. I am also not sure why he wouldn’t just teleport home since he was in Returning Home status. I mean I have seen them teleport so why did my thrall insist on walking through the Thugs?

Any way we can get this fixed or find a reasonable workaround? I would like to be able to place bench thralls again. If the work-around is to disable Living Settlement, then please give me a button to automatically disable Living Settlement on all of my clan’s building pieces and fix it so that Living Settlement stays disabled. Or just disable it again on official servers until all of these issues are fixed. I just wanna be able to safely place bench thralls and have them live for more that a day or few.

Btw, I would have noticed this earlier if the logs would tell me what killed my thrall. I like being able to revive thralls but unfortunately when a thrall goes into a downed state and dies, the logs don’t tell me why my thrall died. Kinda hard for me to help y’all without accurate logs.

Sadly I haven’t seen a mod that turns off the LS. It can be switched off on private servers and SP, but unfortunately only Funcom can turn it off on the official servers. There has been numerous requests for them to turn off the LS until the bugs are fixed but so far the requests have been ignored.

Rodney W. Harper did say “we will continue to listen to you on all our channels and we’d like to hear your opinions”. What he said was true. They are listening. They are not seen to be doing anything, but they are listening.

All I can suggest is to use your highest low-value crafting thralls on your benches and keep all your good ones in a chest for safe keeping until Funcom sorts this mess out.

Far from ideal I know, but in 2 months time all the bugs will be fixed and once again you will be able to wreak havoc on on the Exiled Lands.

This happened, because you were in sight. They only port, when you’re not there.
The quickes fix for wandering thralls is: Box them in…

Yep, make sure you have all their needs met inside the base. Corridors (if any) at least two blocks wide, seating against walls, at least one area with beds for at least 3-quarters of the number of non-combat thralls you have, and you can even put a tavern somewhere away and accessible from the crafting areas. If you see any thralls trying to go through a door to the outside, you have something out there like a seating place or craftstation they are inquisitive about.

If you are playing PvP and your base is very compact, well, then you may be in a little bit of a pickle. Someone else can suggest a fix for that.

Well it took me a minute to get within sight. Also, I have seen my boxed in bench thralls teleport while I was within sight. Maybe that behavior has changed over time though. Last time I saw it was about 3 months ago. Haven’t really tested since.

But that is a point that gets overlooked often. If no players are in the area, nothing is usually happening. I think Returning Home Status falls into that category sometimes and other times doesn’t.

I agree, they are listening. I wish they would test things before release but that would require finishing updates early enough for internal testing to take place. Only bench thralls I have are test thralls. Useless but I get to observe their behavior.

Good advice and a lot of people should take it for sure. However, I can live without the bench thralls for a while. I do hope Funcom can get a handle on these bench thralls at some point though.

Honestly, when they get it fixed I am still not gonna put out any good bench thralls until a few months have passed.

I enjoy it - I got some fun and funny griping from a Bartender thrall that appears to have been coopted as a thrall.

I just am interested in whether the thralls giving their boosts to building and making stuff as expected - and if they show in the little box in the crafting station, they are doing that.

I never have any thralls leaving the base, never getting stuck in the outside-leading doors. They have the same outfits so I know whether they are not some invader acting like a thrall (it’s happened before lol).

Have fun. It’s just a game. :upside_down_face:

But do you have any other bases, at all?

I have maprooms and transportory stones, but I wouldn’t call those bases. Its an open system with no walls and no doors. Most importantly for Living Settlement, there is nothing for the thralls to interact with at any of those locations.
