The team is aware of the issue and it’s being looked into by the developers.
In the meantime, please try some of the workarounds shown in the following video:

@redlin128 there is actually another way to make it work and it works better then what I show in the video. Switching one handed weapons doesn’t seem to cause the same issue as a 2 handed to a 1 handed weapon. You may want to try that in the mean time.
I still feel like this is something funcom should be devoting time to fixing.

You can also try putting the weapon you want them to use on their head until it sticks in their hand, I’ve had some success with this tactic, but it definitely should be fixed.
