I go to the “Clan” tab in my memo and all it says is “To create a clan press triangle and start typing name” but I’m already in a clan with other members. When I try to change the name it says I’m already in a guild.

I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure you can’t just change the clan name. The clan must first be disbanded and a new clan created all members will have to be re invited into the clan. You must be clan leader to do all these steps.
No I been able to change the name multiple times and I am the leader. First time I got this error
Yeah before update you could change clan name freely.
So I was checking it when my base was taking over 20 minutes to load in(died of thirst too while waiting) but when the game loaded up I could change names again
