Cannot interact with tavern patrons

Game Mode: Online Official
Server Type: PvE
Map: Isle of Siptah

Bug Description:

I cannot interact with most NPCs at my new Barmaid/Tavern/Bar counter. I have many benches and many NPCs, but when I stand in front of them and press E, they usually don’t respond. Also, trees are growing up through my tavern about half the time.

Bug Reproduction:

Did purge, got Barkeeper, set up bar counter, found that 9 times out of 10 I can’t interact with patrons at tavern.

You can only interact with the fighters, archers, and dancers. Also the sellsword once you’ve unlocked and purchases him. Everyone else is just passing through.

i believe there is a bit of rng as well on getting mervenariea to visit tavern.

Thanks for your replies. Although I have hired the sellsword twice now, I cannot interact with fighters, archers, or dancers.

I spoke too soon. After logging back into the game I am now unable to interact with most patrons. I managed to interact with 2 dancers while another 1 ignored me, but none of the archers, fighters, or the one named patron.

The same for me, it worked totally fine until some minutes ago, suddenly I can’t interact with the patrons in my tavern. I really hope we have a patch soon…

Did you expect something different from funcom?

I wish I could say yes, but the debacle that was this update removed the last shred of hope I had they would have learned their lesson.

After further attempts here’s what I’ve been able to figure out: If the patron has no name or health bar as is the case with the Hyborian Dancer pictured then I can talk to them.

But if they have a name and health bar like Bohdan the Flexible then you cannot interact with them. I cannot be sure, but I think that even though they are showing up as patrons they’re somehow still flagged as enemies, hence the name and health bar.

I currently have 14 patrons in my tavers and only 3 have the [Press E to talk] option none of them have their names and health bars visible on mouseover.

I think you’re right, they’re probably flagged as enemies.

I’m pretty sure it’s just rng for people you can hire. This has been talked about before. You can’t expect to hire any person who walks in the door. Granted, I do think the rate at which you CAN hire people should be higher. One or two people in a full bar (sometimes none) is pretty counterproductive to the concept of the bar.

I have a similar problem, some of the thralls sitting at the counter have no interactions and they all seem to be high tier

I don’t expect to hire everyone that walks through the doors, but i think what’s throwing me is that on the public beta client none of the patrons had names or health bars as they now do in the update. when mousing over them on the beta client you either got nothing at all meaning they were non-hirable, or you got the click E to talk meaning you could hire them.

I, too, notice that the only tavern patrons you can interact with are low level. The devs teased us about high level patrons wandering in from time to time, and indeed they do, but you simply can’t hire them.

I have the exact same issues. Sucks to know it’s not just me.

On top of that, anybody else rescued a Barkeep only to find she won’t teach you the tavern knowledge?

Look in the decoration tab where you spend knowledge points, it was moved there.

Edit: the system of having patrons being hireable or not at all is fully functional and working as intended. The balance of who is hireable needs adjusting for sure.

Barkeeper doesn’t teach it. It’s already in your knowledge tab. You need to buy it for 3 points.

You are partially correct. You may buy it for 3 points, or you may learn it from a rescued barkeep for FREE. I assume the reason you didn’t see it on a rescued barkeep is because you bought it with points before rescuing one.

Perhaps… though I recall @den mention it would be learned, but I don’t know anything about learning it from the barkeeeper since I didn’t play the test server.

I played around a bit on the test server and the live version is pretty much the same in regards to learning how to make the bar. First character on test server I learned it from knowledges and second I learned from rescued barkeep. Solo live game I leaned it from rescued barkeep, and playing with friends I learned from knowledges.

Honestly, I’d save the points and just learn it free from a rescued barkeep since you need them anyways to draw patrons to your tavern.
