Ceronesthes- Everything Wrong with Conan Exiles (And How to Fix It) - PVP Review and Suggestions

, ,

Wait, what? You’re expecting something to happen? This is Funcom…

Sadly no… I am very on board with completely getting rid of the leveling system , increasing the harvest rate and not implementing the dynamic build damage. (On official pvp) also tweaking the transfer system. It’s far to easy to troll as it is now

Those changes would be interesting for pure PVP. What do you mean by “the transfer system” tho? You mean teleportation?

Official pvp is pure pvp. I’m talking about Character transfer

Not as it currently stands. I mean “Purist PvP”. “Real PvP”. CE’s PvP is tied to PvE - changes to one affects the other. That’s one of the points the video gets right in my opinion.

Separate the two so that FC can follow their own ideas for each as like @stelagel is quoting @Wak4863 about - but individually without the limitations imposed by those game-mode ties.

Ah, server transfers… I see. Yeah, I guess. I kinda like the idea of server-wars though.

You said you play pve so what even are you talking about?

What? No… I never said that. I play both. I’m very active on 4 servers and somewhat active on another 5. Two of the four are Official PvP and two are Official PvE. Of the five two are private PvP and three are Private PvE. I’m currently on no PvE-C servers.

Ya same I’m active on 20 servers and somewhat active on another 50……

What’s your funcom name (without the number)? Maybe we’re on a few of the same servers? Although if you’re on UK servers primarily then maybe not.

I don’t believe you at all.

you seem to know nothing about the intricacies of PVP or its problems yet somehow play 4 pvp servers actively, and pve servers privates and officials, how do you defend so many bases at raid time at once?.

and by chance if you are just refreshing a base on a dead pvp zero pop pvp server that isn’t playing actively.

Just reread this part also, so active on 4 somewhat on 1, 2 of the 4 are oficial pvp, 2 are official pve, 5 of the 2?(2 of the 5?) are private 2… so this is where the math goes off, 2 official pvp 2 official pve, 2 private comes to 6…yet 5 servers

(Edited again: My mistake Another 5 lol so 9 servers total so the math adds up its just nearly twice the number I thought, epic)

Lol I can hardly handle one active server 40/40… also this whole stigma of ruing pve I just don’t get… I bet I do more pve things on my active pvp sever than most pvers. I kill many many bosss, farm many things and when I build a base it takes a lot of thought / experience to do so. As if I miss one detail it could mean game over for my whole clan.

This right here i have championed multiple times.

FC themselves said they tried to avoid rpg tropes, one being a classless system. But they still used the most archaic of rpg tropes, xp leveling.

My solution would have enhances the adventure part.

  1. All players start with all of the XP needed to build a lvl 60 character.

  2. Perks would become recipes in all the cities, and not rng but similiar to the cooking etc. And multiple learning points for each, placed where they make sense lore wise in the major cities.

  3. Then rebalance all NpCs HP and dmg to be more equal, with minor balance tilts toward archery, melee, survival, agility, and vitality (based on area). This would mean a level 60 would not be able to face plant the desert, etc… Thus make the game map a balanced experience as far as PvE content. Dungeons could then be more balanced to use the perks to make them easier if so desired.

Edited for spelling.

After reflecting on the video, I’d like to add more substantial feedback and maybe offer some jumping points for discussion.

  • Server transfer, Bodyvaulting, Item barriers to PvP: I agree almost wholly with Cero on these subjects.

  • Mounts: I know Cero hates them, but I think they are here to stay. My biggest complaint with mounts is they isolate so many weapon styles, meaning if you can’t use a weapon on or against a mount it loses a ton of value. I think adapting weapons with mounted combat in mind is the proper solution (like their pike brace proposition).

  • Lance: One shot lance sucks, but I still fear if we only nerf it the lance becomes a less useful spear. I’d rather it find a new niche where it can thrive rather than be another subpar weapon. Maybe it should do extra damage to mounts, making it a stronger “anti mount” option. Just spitballing.

  • Upkeep Cost: I hope they make that 30 min vid on why it’s a bad idea. Of all the points I think their answers to the problem of overbuilding were the weakest, so I’d like to hear more.

  • DNB: Good points on the potential to exploit. I’m not sure if free days or lowering weekday windows is enough alone to curb rampant offline raiding. Could be in conjunction with building adjustments. Offlining needs to be possible, but it being the meta is just bad IMO. I think other “forms” of DNB could be interesting alternatives, what if your thralls were buffed while you are offline for example?

  • Jump to 60: I don’t think this is necessary with transfers. I think if streamer mode was better and the Item barrier to PvP was addressed there would be little reason to axe the “early game”. If they aren’t going to address those than I think the argument for this is stronger.

My favorite part of the video is when they start listening off all of the problems to effectively balancing PvP in bullet order lol. It really does feel impossible at times, with all of the contradicting pieces, to come up with satisfactory solutions.

That was great, @Ulyssi.

Ceronesthes could have stopped the video right when he said the kernel of the problem: Conan Exiles isn’t a PvP game. I’ve been saying it for quite some time, and so have a lot of notable people.

We have very different abilities - probably due to the amount of time we spend. I’m retired and have been pouring a lot of time into this game. I’ve been playing hard for over a year and am fairly efficient at this point. If I need to and I have, I can level to 60 and build a nearly impregnable base in a day. I’ve read a lot of others with the same claim so it’s not that exceptional. My condolences if you’re struggling on a single server but that’s OK too… we all have different play-styles.

For sure! I didn’t agree with almost anything he had to say about horseback combat! And he got a lot of detail actually wrong in his descriptions of it. For one, the ability one-hit enemies is rare and just doesn’t happen in mature clan wars. Another of his false claims is that the horseback attacker can not be dismounted - nonsense!

That I agree with… Full contact of lance to target horse should take somewhere between 35 and 55% of the horse’s health. And with a horse under lvl 10 a one-hit death should be possible.

Actually it happens daily on the servers I’m in. High farming areas like the Shattered Springs are patrolled by alpha clans on horseback and a farming build just can’t survive a hit from someone geared for combat. He’s spot on in that analysis. What I disagreed with is this implied idea that we are entitled to the rich farming spots. Sure the psychology of the whole thing of getting one hitted vs fighting may get some but for the pragmatic…it doesn’t matter and actually wastes time to prolong it. If you are a combat build and you come across a farm build, the farmers only shot is to run and evade but good luck with that as the combat build probably has more grit.

I said mature clan-wars… Not people (or n00bs) out in the field with enc builds.

Why not just balance the horse to be the opposite of the rhino? High stamina, low HP suited for travel vs combat. Yes nerf the horse HP because there is no reason why a horse needs 5k HP. (but thrall HP is just too much anyways but that is a different topic).

That might work… To my mind I would rather make it easier to buff up enc build farming players. I dunno, maybe make that backpack give a much higher armor rating or something.

Ah but Cero was just limiting it to clan wars but just in general. Resource gathering at the high traffic zones is a death wish when the alpha clan is on currently and no amount of skill can help you if the horse rendering doesn’t give you the option to notice it and suddenly you just explode and watch your inventory get consumed by the rider.
