Just had an idea to help with attacking bases where the player is.
Use the trigger that resets decay timer to nerf the building to 80% of HP. This would make players want to attack occupied bases as well, plus for those the daisy chain across the map, all bases would now be 80%. Would make one think twice about creating those sandstone links between vast amounts of land. Just a spitball to force more sieging on PVP servers. Obviously none of this would effect PVE/PVE-C servers, and would be setting on main server settings menu.
I agree, but you see, thats what make these survival sandbox games so interesting, all the plot is written by the players, so you always choose which side you are, fight the bad guys or are one of them. I can only imagine if this game could handle hundreds of players with stable servers, it would be crazy, guess the map would have to be bigger though, if not possible on scale, more regions like going to other islands.
-
This means doubled cost and thats it. Neighter helping new players nor hurting old ones.
Even less dealing with the bad building vs raiding ābalanceā, which causes people to raid offline people in the first place⦠-
Hm. That would prove nasty to implement. To have only one source of damage be negated. Not to mention itās unlikely to be considered another kind of damage to begin with.
-
Way too long. 30 minutes are fair game when getting offline raided. That still allows for a huge loss for the offline party.
-
Eh? Just change purge setting from players online to owner needs to be online=true/false.
And for a counter suggestion which I already wrote two or three times now:
Straightforward offline protection.
Once the owner logged off, a timer of 30 minutes starts.
Once those 30 mins have passed, the actual protection kicks in. At least -90% damage, but preferably immunity. Decay is supposed to kick in on inactive players.
In exchange for getting such an offline protection, go for 24/7 raidtime.
- Though the loss of durability is an interesting idea. Why not have bases loose 10 HP per minute when the owner is offline?
But please include a forced purge upon hitting the ~150% mark. (when the bar is filled to the brim/hard cap)
Reasons:
The raid windows are already make shift offline protection. People who play as much so they can cover those times wont be raided offline, but online. This hurts soloplayers though and as this game isnt really impossible to solo - rather easy to do (except for the big dragons, those are aweful - my block gets ignored all the time with their new attacks). This is why I see no reason against offline protection.
The PVP system does have rules, see: raid hours. Thereās also the Event Log which is a tremendous help, imagine how frustrating it would be to have no idea who is doing what to you. People being wiped out by more advanced tribes on Conan Exiles is par for the course in a PVP title like this. The real challenge is to communicate and try to befriend crazy people, which takes a little bit of luck and a lot of psychology. Unless thereās some language barrier, you should be able to forge relationships with at least somebody in the server, and thatās a good start at least.
My buddy and I are more builders than raiders or fighters. Weāll get dirty if we have to, but we prefer not to. We make this known to people, not to exhibit weakness, but to give people the opportunity to avoid needlessly PVP-ing with people who arenāt interested in PVP. Weāre not interested in a back-and-forth war, and will use months of saved artillery to wipe someone who we consider a nuisance. To that end, people have been pretty respectful about not giving us problems.
The question sometimes arises: why did you join PVP if youāre more interested in building? The answer is a combination of things. For one, PVP servers are slightly more interesting. Reading drama going down in Global Chat helps the time fly by while gathering resources. Additionally, I need to be able to demolish something blocking a vital resource rather than come cry on the forums to no avail.
But the biggest reason is because I see PVP as a ālast resort,ā when all else fails. I would rather be democratic and negotiate and talk things over than fight. The challenge of a PVP server, to me at least, is to use diplomacy to avoid PVP where possible. Thatās always been WAY MORE FUN than raiding back-and-forth, in my eyes.
Report for cheating, yes. Report for stream sniping, no.
I stream Overwatch and used to stream a little Conan, until I got paranoid that my clanmatesā stuff would be subject to stream sniping. And thatās fair, because itās a PVP title and you just gotta take it more seriously.
I know someone else who used to stream it and would put up a screen-blocker whenever they were entering their base through an elaborate labyrinth-esque entrance. Thatās an option, too. But I will never fault somebody for using freely-given information to raid a clan or player.
I think there should be ābuilding limitationsā that give more space around obelisks and the like, but would enjoy if we could SEE those limitations when equipped with placeables. Axe in hand? No visuals. Foundation or brazier? Now you see some red energy floating around the parts where you canāt build, like the scary green death walls. That way nobody starts a big project only to find they canāt finish it due to limits they were unaware of.
Exploits, I hate. Noob abuse is unfortunate, but itās āsort ofā the alpha clanās job to police that sort of thing. Maybe not the alpha clan, but honorable level-60 clans should definitely try to deter that behavior when possible.
As for āoffline raiding,ā hey - thatās fair game IMO. However I think the game would definitely benefit from a phone app that informs you when your base is getting hit by raid or purge, so you may have the chance to deter it without having to stay logged in during all raid hours.
The point of PVP servers is to be fun. But itās also to be sadistic hell. The point of PVP servers is that players decide what the point of it is. Clans are free to join together and rally against troublemakers, individuals are free to set up secret bases and do their part to āRobin Hoodā people, etc.
The less rules, the more possibilities. It sucks that you have experienced a lot of negative situations, but I would not trade the freedom that comes with a lack of rules just to feel āsafer.ā Itās not worth the trade, honestly.
Im sorry but I dont think troll abuse should be catered for. I am very much thinking about packing in the game all together. The trolls on my streams dont look good.
yeah like stamina glitching, undermeshing, raiding during non raiding hours, griefing, racism, blocking oblisks, walling off the only brimstone area, the lack of foresight by the dev team for using the UE4 with its single core āgame threadā
sounds fun
The Devs Iām sure are working on fixes to exploits though too many of these exploits have lingered for sometime now.
Exploits aside, I see nothing wrong with blocking off resources in PVP, as any real world force would do the same to starve enemies of resources. This isnāt hello kitty online or Mr. Rogerās neighborhood. This is a game set in a savage, brutal universe of Conan, and that ultimately means fighting aholes and being one yourself to survive. I think itās a moot point to be complaining about the lack of civility in a game that is set in a realm of incivility. I mean come on now, you complain about a game full of tribalist tyrants when everyone takes NPC slaves as a basic game mechanic?
You missed the whole āPVPā part, and maybe the regular community that comes with official PVP in any game. Contrary to your belief, conflict is the biggest driver in the PVP game. People who cry about an obelisk blocked by alphas or resources or thralls walled off should realize this game is all about conflict. Without conflict PVP servers turn into PVE servers and the population either drops or becomes ripe for the slaughtering by true savages that eventually always come. If you canāt handle conflict with Alphas, you should either avoid them and find resources elsewhere, work together with their enemies against them or simply pay them tribute and swear fealty.
Itās not trolling or griefing to be dominant or alpha and to use valid game mechanics to be medieval savages. Thereās nothing more satisfying than a good revenge story too from smaller clans overthrowing alpha clans. Likewise its pretty entertaining for alpha clans who worked hard to get where theyāre at to go find obnoxious lesser clans who complain about land claims and deal with them however they see fit. Typically that involves killing them, killing all their thralls and burning their castles to the ground.
Its perfectly fine to block resources and obelisks. Its also a valid mechanic to camp obs too. Cry some more or go blow up some walls if you dare to. In PVP the only thing you canāt do (but Iāve seen it done and itās hilarious) is to wall off the starting desert area. Aside from this itās perfectly valid to restrict the movement of your foes and to deny them resources. Exerting dominance over others is part of the sandbox PVP genre. I love how people cry about this in Conan when games like Ark or Eve Online were even more brutal when it came to locking down resources or whole servers. Its not like you canāt find resources in CE anywhere else either. Maybe they should make building cost more in resources but at the end of the day, the most determined clan will still dominate.
I guess sensitive types will call depriving enemies and randoms access to resources ābullyingā but show me a dominant nation in the history of man that hasnāt fought over resources or to deprive their enemies.
if you want a friendly neighborhood server go play on PVE and build to your heartās content, but otherwise expect that the minute a civilized, peaceful village pops up in CE PVP somebody is going to come along and burn it to the ground, just because they can.
I agree on alot of fronts. problem is I have yet to find an alpha that doesnt resort to exploits and glitches. to me that is the only unfair thing Funcom needs to figure out. They allow alot of gray area, and thus people have no risk to use cheats. some only have a few in clan that will cheat, thus it protects them. if more true alphas would obliterate and not accept cheating, the game would be greatly improved. the constant we are working on it line drives out any normal players over time.
Hummmmmmm, not sure if āunableā is the right word, its a survival pvp game, people should expect that, you always must look for resources elsewhere when theres competition you canāt fight.
Also, if you keep ākillingā an enemy player over and over, youāre making him āunableā to play, so player behavior in these types of games resume in āYou know what youāre getting into ? Face the risk, or avoid itā.
Problem is, people are starting to choose to avoid it, and Conan player base is shrinking. At some point, there will only be private servers, with too many rules, and officials with exploiters and cheats. Casual gamers will move on and Funcom loses āfaceā in their eyes.
But that is not a pvp problem, crying because a larger clan than you are dominating only makes the game even more true to its proposit and was desing to.
What make ppl leave is seeing their progress drown because of the freedom to abuse of hacks and glitches.
Thereās quite a few alpha tribes Iāve been apart of or fought against that did not use exploits, though we all know some of the most successful gamers have a lot of free time IRL. (Maybe there should be player time limits on these sort of games for health/social reasons but thatās another topic completely). Iāve also seen a handful of trolls use exploits to decimate alphas they couldnāt beat any other way, but ultimately its on Funcom to fix these issues and go after the worst offenders. Plenty of times however Iāve seen smaller or losing clans scream exploit when there was none used. For example a clan of 8 people kept forgetting to repair broken crenelation and to secure their elevators. Eventually after days of killing all their thralls and tames over and over again, taking all their armor to the point they were fighting us naked everyday and wrecking their massive base, we snuck 2 guys up their elevators at both bases to check their altars.
We discovered both bases had altars that had enough zeal to pop another bubble (and at one base they left the arch priest in the altar) So we flip 4 of their altars (bringing a few of our own arch priests) and finally demoād their bases with their own Jebal coins. No insiding, no exploits, just wearing down enemies and sneaking into their bases. And what did they do? Scream exploits and cry about how we were so mean etc etc instead of spending the time to repair damage and secure their bases.
Sure thing, indeed annoying, if the good guys band together theres always a chance to repel that.
Iāve come to learn that dicks only have the internet to do that, you know, no one can see their honorless face through the screen.
The problem is, that even with proof, Funcom does nothing. I have been part of a clan that has done all those things as well, against cheaters and straight up clean Alphas. Even been offered spots in the clan we fought with after wards, and turned it down because i had proof of their exploiting/cheating. Will never play with cheaters. But too many have decided to turn a blind eye as long as the cheaters donā t hit them or harass them. Saying band together is great in theory, but when the ācleanā gamers get no answers from the people above (Funcom) of what is and isnāt ban-able, then they just give up the hamster wheel fight, and go to games where they know what mechanics are considered fair play.
The solution beyond fixing the game code (though unpopular with game developers) is to take legal action against the worst offenders who can be identified.
Many people forget that using exploits against an online game still involves running exploits against a server that
could open them up to civil or criminal prosecution. Causing players to quit b/c of exploits taken on a server can translate into financial loss for Funcom.
Granted I donāt see Funcom taking such action either but some other game developers are starting to consider this sort of thing
There are servers where the alpha clan or āfellowship of clansā work to make sure that resources and similar things are not blocked. Maybe do a little tourism of different servers and talk to the people with time logged (check battlemetrics) to see if itās the server for you.
Iām one of the OGs on our server, ~8 mos. now, and we have found peace among the larger clans. When someone blocks something (intentionally or unintentionally) they have until raid time the next day to try to recover the resources they used to build, otherwise itās coming down one way or another.
Not every server is the same. Some servers are a haven for griefers and exploit-users. Do your homework and find a server thatās right for you. Or, alternatively, pack it up if you think such unrestricted (read: barbaric) PVP is not conducive to fun.
There are so many different angles to approach this problem from and I feel like you are just defaulting to āFuncom should make it easier for people like myself.ā You may be right, but I have put a lot of time into this game and I personally feel they should reduce exploits and punish cheaters but leave everything else as-is.
Let the people govern themselves when it comes to blocking resources - thatās a real world thing and a level of immersion we donāt get often enough in PVP. Find a creative way around it or find another server or find another game. Because the sooner you start reducing the barbarism in this game, the less āConanā it becomes.
Iām not saying āget gudā in the traditional sense, but rather, āget creativeā to try to explore more options in a game that is open-ended so as to allow for multiple solutions to such problems.
People blocking an obelisk/resource/other?
Possible solutions:
a.) finding a server where the obelisk is not blocked (and where the players there donāt tolerate that kind of thing).
b.) grinding resources until youāre ready to tear down that wall.
c.) pooling resources with others to take down the wall (teamwork).
d.) politely asking for access and trying to make friends with this group (i recommend bringing a peace offering, like a custom dye job on some nice armor).
e.) infiltrate their ranks over time and then dismantle everything they own when they are offline.
f.) find a PVP-hungry clan in another server who might be willing to visit your server to level/grind up to take those obelisk-blockers out.
These are all methods that have worked at one point or another. Some are more successful than others. Your mileage may vary.
But the last thing I want is people running into these problems refusing to exhaust their options and instead asking Funcom to change the nature of the game to be less barbaric and more āhand-holdy.ā
Of course thereās always the option of joining a private server that has its own rules, if you like. My point is, there are creative solutions worth exploring before trying to change the fundamental premise.
Its not as easy as that⦠but never mind i have moved server as the bullying got extremely bad.
