Concerns about new tether

Personally I’m enjoying most of this update, I like that enemies do more damage, I love the new stam system as it is a great change to how combat flows and I’ve always been a proponent of non repairable legendaries since EA. The one concern I do have is the tether system. Mabye I’m just nostalgic for the EA but the game was much more dangerous dynamic and fun when tethering wasn’t a thing. I remember doing all sorts of crazy things like lure dragons into camps or pitting enemies against each others or other players in new and creative ways. My concern is by add a stronger tether and decreasing aggression you will take away all the real danger of exploring and living in the exiled lands and make it feel even more fake and dead than tethering has already made it feel. Even if it was a server setting as part of the difficulty i think it would make a huge difference but thats just my thoughts on the matter.

Yes I have no idea why they would have changed that :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Have you ever played any other survival games? Luring a giga in ark or a wandering horde in 7 days in part of the fun, its dynamic and interesting and adds difficulty and danger that conan no longer has.
Conan is supposed to be a survival game that implies a dynamic and dangerous environment and world that we are now lacking and i fear that this specific change will make worse. The fact that people cant ruin my day with a rotbranch if they really tried makes me sad. Survival games should make you fear leaving your base, make exploring feel dangerous and rewarding because this time you made it, in conan now you never have to engage any threats you dont want to and thats not a good thing.

Tethering as it is right now is a cheap way to fix problems with AI and by association server performance. I can’t really fault the devs for it, despite hating it too.

AI would have to be able to hide when they can’t press a ranged attacker. Spiders could climb, big-ass insects too, winged things just fly. Then aquatic animals need to swim, crocs being the most commonly requested. Then we’ve got climbing. Human AI could pelt rocks that cause stamina damage. Big animals could smash trees and rocks, and bash at walls to shake us off.

As for dragging mobs from their spawn, they could have an escalating chance to slow down and stop, then return home as they get further away from it, and their target. Imagine some exiles just chased you away from their camp for a minute or two, then stop and shake their fists for a while and throw rocks at you before returning home.

I’m all for a rework of “tethering”, but at the same time I can already see how much work has to be done. New animations and probably a ground up AI rework. Cause damn they’re bad, honestly. And un-optimised as far as I can tell.

Some where around 14. Including ARK; yuck, and 7D2D, ugly hate 1st person.

And considered trolling, or didn’t you know that?

:face_with_raised_eyebrow:

And that has what to do with being a troll and kiting world bosses in to people’s bases? In my world that puts you in the Richard box. That’s not being clever, it’s being a Richard.

Note that I have already pointed out my issue with the aggro range and lacking in reaction of NPCs.

I like the way you think.

Ok so you don’t like survival games and thats ok but saying that doing what is a standard part of a genre is a dick move (using the environment to your advantage in a SURVIVAL GAME) is ridiculous, and yes its clear that the devs have decided thats the way it will be for now but i would encourage them to move back into the survival aspects again however they can. If tethering is required for ai performance then make it less limited in its range so it acts more aggressive, if too many npcs attacking at once is causing lag than decrease spawns and increase their health and damage etc. Randomize some spawns of animals so it ferls less like a early 2000s mmo and more like a living world, Don’t make a game world that feels far to artificial even more so.

You’re sad because the game is preventing you from being griefed? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Yep, it adds to dynamic gameplay, when new challenges arise i like to deal with them. One of my favorite experiences in conan was in early access someone brought a boss croc over to my base and we had to stratagize to deal with it and overcome it with primitive weapons, now all you get is some guy blowing up your base when your at work. No art to it no style and no actual challenge.

Then don’t play pvp with 24/7 raiding, easy fix.

Fair enough lol

Yes i just loath survival games

Try to justify it all you want, kiting a world boss in to someones base is greifing. But hey you tell yourself what ever you need to to not feel bad about it, K?

No it’s pretty much a Richard move.

I had a feeling this is where this was going the moment I read the first post :stuck_out_tongue:
Except, I also have the feeling that it’s YOU who likes kiting things into other peoples bases…

You can still kite the larger mobs… just more dangerous and harder to do.

Mabye my system is just being a fluke but my testing of mobs on beta right now they are disengaging faster and barely following meaning that its becoming harder to use the environment to control the fighting situation. And its interesting how everyone assumes mal content when I’m literally saying how i feel about what used to be a mechanic. There have been constant complaints on this forum about tether because often enemies will disengage teleport and insta heal making what you’ve did meaningless. Yes it was entertaining ro be able to lure a dragon or an elephant or a group of thralls into a position to use to your advantage not just to other people bases but also for you to kill them, BUUUUUUTTTTT it was also amazing that the same thing could happen to me by others and when it did it was equally as cool, im not saying i want to be a special little boy who can bully others im saying that the game is more dynamic when all players can use the environment to there advantage and move mobs around which was the original point of this post…
