“We are hitting levels of copium we don’t even thought was even possible”
I’m already at a loss to why they’re doing these chapter things at all.
Nice idea, very poor implementation. They just do not have the staff to address such a large responsibility and requirements to make this work as intended. I feel bad for the staff, it is wholly unfair.
It should not take until the next major update to fix an enormous problem like what is happening on Siptah.
I fail to understand what copium is! I am sorry what’s your point and reason in this statement?
I’m really hoping the TBC is more sorcery content in relation to war. Siege and defense spells.
Or perhaps completing the pet work that was started with the specific intent that they would finish it at some point.
I submitted a query yesterday regarding the status of the Thrall/Pet Rework.
It did not get any responses.
“Copium” is another way to tell someone that they’re lying to themselves. In other words, it means that someone is in denial about something, or that they’re choosing to believe something that isn’t true. It’s often said to people who try to make excuses for a failure or who try to spin something that’s decidedly negative into a positive.
Thank you !
The decision to switch to a fixed release cadence came together with the new monetization. Both are Tencent’s doing. Either the directive for both came from above, or the monetization “expert” recommended the new cadence to entice the players.
Funcom “sold” the new monetization to the players by pointing out the new release cadence and explaining that the monetization will make that possible. Basically, the message was “spend money on us and we’ll keep developing this game”.
And to further sell that idea, they released the Age of Sorcery, where chapter 1 was rather spectacular. Sure, there were things people disliked about the balance and it had its bugs and whatnot, but you can’t deny they started with a bang.
Those of us who knew enough about software remained skeptical about the new cadence. It’s easy to start with a bang because nobody outside knows how much time you’ve had to prepare that bang. Only after the wheel spins a few times can you see whether there’s a problem where the rubber meets the road.
I won’t say yet that the Age of War proved that the cadence is not viable. Sooner or later, everyone misses the deadline and has to either postpone a release or release what they have. Now we have to see if they’re capable of recovering. I’m not optimistic.
I pretty much feel bad for anyone working in the game dev industry. It can be very fun, but the conditions are brutal compared to the rest of the software development.
I agree, but this isn’t even the first time they disabled the decay timer on a bunch of servers for months and let the problem sit on the back burner. It’s only gonna get worse, because their capacity seems to be going down. I don’t have insight into what’s going on inside Funcom, but my guess is that the Conan Exiles team keeps shrinking.
My friend, I highly recommend: put the Savage Wilds map on your PC. You will not regret. All dissatisfaction and disappointment will go away!
Definitely agree, it was pretty immense and exciting. No, I don’t agree with everything but they gave us as much of what was expected and more really. I know that adding in the corruption and follower mechanics required some overhaul but they went too far in other parts, as an example.
I would have been ok with the introduction and implementation of sorcery without all this chapter crap though.
It’s setting completely unrealistic expectations on the team and us as players. Plus all the other crap in it, like bugs and extensions and blah blah blah.
I’m one of those who refuse to purchase anything further and it isn’t even because of FOMO which I wouldn’t anyway because of that. It’s because of all the issues I’ve presented and discussed for over a year here. It hasn’t improved and I still won’t.
I’m a drop in the bucket probably… But still, it’s my own morality and opinion.
And this itself is ok. BUT FRIKIN TELL US, keep us apprised, let us know what to expect, when and keep it realistic.
I think it has been majorly noticed too.
I stopped playing on top of it. It’s just not worth it.
I stopped having fun, if a game makes me feel like that I don’t play it.
It’s so unfortunate.
Funny thing is, with some basic creativity they can change up on every Age. Move spawns in maps around, increase/decrease foliage (resource) spawns to change major farming spots up. Move World bosses around. Re decor a camp. All stuff very easy to do in devkit for average modders. If they did those along with some of the mechanic and game loop updates, it would justify being called Chapters.
I never done the battlepass in admin mode and I will never start doing it this way. It defeats all its purpose and its not fun, at least not for me.
I personally never had a problem with the battlepass nor the price. Because I pay once and thats it. But what I have a problem with it is the current state of the game.
Its not about the loss of my items or workstations or thralls. Its how the devs acted about it. They could have easily prevented this by communicating the change. They could have done a setback in the first couple of hours. They had options to minimize the lose. And they did nothing. They sat back, let the s… hit the fence and threw a statement out afterwards to calm down the situation so they are back on track with selling their skins. That is the hard truth and I dislike such a behavior from a company. No matter how much I love a game or how long I supported it in the past. As I and many said before, the problem is not about making money so the game stays alive. Its about tencent abusing loyal players.
I am also not going “against other players” as you said in your post. I said I will never understand the people who defend this change. Because its bs in my opinion. Funcom can go and remove the entire stamina system from the game, because stamina with this change already is non existing anymore. People can like it and play it all they want. Its their choice to like it and mine not to.
Last but not least, the purge. Old purge might had its problems and there where methods to cheese it but thats Funcoms fault because they never fixed certain issues with the purge. But the original concept for the purge is far away from what we get now. Old devs always said they didn´t want people to feel to comfy in their bases. The purge was meant to come and destroy and their was a time where devs said they even wanted the purge to hit harder then they actually did.
Now look where we ended. A purge that is a purge no more. That doesn´t longer deserves the title “purge”. No player ever has to fear an attack anymore. You get any reward you want in no time and all you have to do is make a path for them to walk on and a gate. That is not a purge. I would have never had a problem with paying a purge to retreat. So that if you do not want to have a purge in that moment you pay some gold and they do not attack. But controlling the purge is a big fat no go for me. It defeats any purpose. And I stand this ground.
I agree. It’s not a purge, it’s a raid, and it’s vaguely reminiscent of the tower defense games that were popular once.
You could always avoid the purge, in a few different ways. What’s new here isn’t the ability to avoid the purge, it’s the ability to summon it without having to submit to a mind-numbingly boring grind. What’s also new is that you don’t have to pray to RNGeezus to get a challenging purge that attacks a base worth defending, rather than a handful of scorpions attacking your crappy little desert outpost.
Some of us either can’t or don’t want to schedule our lives around this game, which is something that the old purge requires. For those of us playing without a clan, it requires a significant investment in time and effort to just trigger it. For those who can trigger it easily, it poses a different kind of intrusion in their lives: if you’re due for a purge on a given day and you have very little time to play on that day, you need to either reschedule your private life to defend from a purge or avoid playing altogether so the purge meter will go down.
Let’s face it, both of these things suck. There are several aspects of the “classic” purge that simply aren’t tuned well enough to make it a challenge to look forward to, rather than a chore or a gamble.
Could they have tuned it better instead of revamping it? Yeah, and I would’ve loved that. But I’ll settle for this and hope it doesn’t end up being as crappy as I fear.
That’s the start, not the ending . It’s on our hand to change it, just keep on playing to give feedback
. I do understand everything you say Winthor and i agree to the most, you know it
Is it bad that I’m actually looking more forward to the events coming back and the dungeons tweaked than this purge?
Just an aside on the larger player triggered Purge discussion.
This one personally likes it so far. It needs more polish, but the potential to be triggerable interactions with whatever big bad we have in an Age is there.
However, there should be another incident like the Classic Purge. Sometimes Calamity strikes.
New purges won’t have avalanches of rocknoses, ect.
But those don’t have to go away.
This one is fine with Purges specifically being as that Gilzan has been saying for so long.
But that doesn’t mean we should do away with pseudo random catastrophe the previous purge provided.
As a 'Murikan, this one must always ask, Porque no los Does?
Chapter 3 is when Illidan Stormrage will be freed from his shackles and unleashed upon Outworld, after which his reign of terror will know no boundaries as he subjugates both demon and mortal alike in his unending quest to shatter the Burning Legion.
You. Are. Not. Prepared.
The Burning Crusade is coming.
Don’t worry, Harry Potter will stop that by riding Aslan all across the Westeros to throw the One Ring into the Phantom Zone.
Why nooo.
But in all seriousness, it is a big part of the reason, but far from the only one. It must be remembered that despite the sheer volume of support I have rallied for more Crom items (highest voted player made thread in the history of the forum), Funcom may still decide they wish to keep Crom as is. But even if Crom does not receive anything new, I would still want a religion overhaul, and an Age of the Gods would still be my single most wanted Age next.
The religion system in Conan Exiles is amazing, and it makes that of other games religions, eg- Skyrim, The Witcher 3, look paper thin by comparisson. But sadly as it stands now, mostshrine weapons, armors and crafting recipes are useless and not viable. Our choices in religion should be deep and hold meaning, not inconsequential.
They’re useful for me to violently chuck them into the table and illusion other things, but actually usable items would be nice.
Crom inspired armor would also be nice.
