Bug Description:

The game crashes about a third of the way into the loading screen when joining the server. Rarely I am able to successfully join server after changing some settings, but not often enough to be reliable. After successfully joining, exiting the server and attempting to rejoin results in the crash again, even if no settings were changed. I’ve had a previous crash issue when attempting to join this server, but it was resolved by changing the game to Windowed mode. As far as I am aware, all of the drivers on my device are up-to-date. I have attempted Steam’s verify files option and a fresh reinstall, neither of which resolved the issue. Restarting my PC does not resolve the issue.

Bug Reproduction:

Attempt to join server (either from launcher directly “Continue” button, or from main menu). When loading, the game will crash.

Error Message

The error message given with this crash is “Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 0x00000420” and “!0x0000000000000000”

My guess is 156 reborn. Hasnt been updated since 2020 and the game has had many changes since then.

Thank you for taking the time to report this situation to us.

Could you kindly completely disable mods and give it another try (for example on an official server or single player)? If the same thing happens even with mods disable, please let me know so I can continue to investigate.

Thank you. I am able to play in single player without mods. I’m going to try getting the server owner to switch out LitmanLevelOneFiftySixReborn as @darthphysicist suggested. I’ll make sure to keep posted here.

We switched out Litmans for a different leveling mod. Initially I could log in, but after using a bunch of knowledge points I’m having issues again. Same error codes, but I am able to get in to the server way more often than before the switch.

I’ll contact the server owner again. Would it be useful for me to post the content from the logs here? I’ve never dealt with troubleshooting a bug that was like this.

I wouldnt bother until you’ve had a chance to see without that mod. It hasnt been updated in years and the attack animations have been changed. Some Other mods that adjusted movesets were abandoned at one point since then so I bet its that. I cant remember if there’s a conflict between stacksize and unlock, but I would make sure stacksize has been updated in the last six months. I cant remember if it has or not. I know unlock has.

Martial Combat has been removed and no issues so far. Thanks darth for helping me out with this

Getting the crash again. Files for Conan Exiles haven’t changed as far as I am aware other than verifying the install. I did have updates for Ark: Survival Ascended and No Man’s Sky but I would hope that doesn’t break anything. I haven’t tried rebooting since those updates were installed so I’m going to try that.

Edit: After reboot I was able to log in once. After that, it crashes again when logging into the server.

So full solution is to remove Martial Combat AND disable Steam Overlay. I didn’t have issues with the Overlay in the past but apparently now that’s the problem.
