Has anyone else run into these and have any idea how they work or are used? They have associated blacksmith tools, bellows, chisel etc. which also need instructions for.

Yeah it must be because when I did a search for them I found nothing at all.
I noted a few spots on the map for them. It’s not from a mod or likewise. It’s part of the original game.

Maybe petrified eggs? You can find some out in the wild in the Well of Skelos.
If these are what you are talking about, then they don’t do anything, they are just decorations. You can learn to craft them yourself from the Library of Esoteric Artifacts.
I just went to get a screenshot, and the eggs are not there. I used to see them, daily. I just didn’t have the curiosity at the time. I thought it was a pet entourage to the base that was there.
