Dancers stop dancing after loading game

Platform: Steam

Issue Type: Gameplay

Game Mode: Single Player

Server Type: Pve

Map: Exiled Lands

Server Name: None

Mods: Improved Quality of Life, Fashionist, Devious Desires, Armor and Weapon Stats in Bench

Bug Description: After loading the game or if you leave render distance dancers will stop dancing. After loading in the game the character and NPCs lurch, perhaps as assets get loaded in, I don’t know, but if this happens after the dancers start to dance then they stop. They will also stop if you leave render distance. In either case if you go into the emote menu and choose ‘clear emote’ then they will start to dance again. However, repeatedly doing this is annoying. It’s not a major issue obviously, but it is an annoying one which affects the games quality of life.

Edit: This has actually been happening for a long time. But I started a new game and I finally got annoyed enough with it to report it. But it did have a starting point. I just don’t recall when that was. Probably after the release of AoS or AoW.

Bug Reproduction: Load game or leave render distance.

I can’t say that ever happened to me (also singleplayer Steam edition). It would probably be a good idea to test whether it happens to you if you remove some of the mods you are using. If you backup a copy of your save game and then try loading in with one mod removed, you should be able to identify the culprit (and then still be able to go back to the backed up copy of your save once you have identified). If I had to guess, I’d say Devious Desires is a likely first stop, but IQOL also has a history of linking to some odd bugs. If any of the four have not been updated recently, that would also be a good place to start. Once you know which mod (or possibly combination of mods) is causing the problem, you’ll then be able to decide whether it’s better to do without that mod or live with the bug - and you may be able to report what’s going on to the modder.

Turns out it was Devious Desires. It’s too bad. I really like having all the extra poses and animations. But the thing with the dancers is really annoying me. I wonder if the mod author knows of the issue.

Well, at least you’ve managed to identify it. Might be worth checking out the mod page on Steam as there may be a way to report the issue to them. As long as you are polite about it, rather than coming across as accusing, I find most mod authors are quite willing to receive bug reports (and generally far more responsive than a certain professional games company…)

For me it is Thralls are Alive that is the mod that does not work properly. In that instance, the modder has stated from the beginning that they design for servers only and not for singleplayer, which is fair enough, but unfortunate for me. Hopefully you may have more luck with Devious Desires.
