Hey there; I’ve been playing for some days now with my buddy, managed to build a cool, average sized base, having lots of fun.
But - we’ve created 2 elevators about ~50 meters outside our base about 3 days ago, to have easier access to iron deposits. Today those elevators are gone, because foundations decayed - even though we were using those elevators on daily basis. Not a big deal, but it got me worried.
So, what’s the decay rate? Should I be worried about our base?
We’re playing on an official server with 100% default settings. Some guys we met say decay rate is 1 week, but I doubt it now.
Thanks!
A “base” needs to have a certain amount of connected building pieces in order to have a full 7-day decay timer. I’m not sure how many exactly, but you can see by wielding a repair hammer (or pressing the Tab key while pointing at your building) the decay timer it has.
Too small buildings (e.g. just a couple of foundation blocks and an elevator) have an accelerated decay rate, so they disappear pretty quickly if left unattended.
Be aware on officials, such accommodations for pure convenience are likely frowned upon if not part of the base.
Ya the elevators have to be connected to your base or they have to have more structure to them to increase the decay rate to max 168 hours. A elevator just on a few blocks will have a decay rate of maybe just a few hours. Best is to connect them with blocks or a horizontal elevator to your base. Good Luck
Thanks guys, I guess that’s all I needed to know. It’s a PvE server and those elevators were in a pretty unhabitable spot, so I think we’re good
Press X to doubt…
Doesn’t matter to me, I am going to stick with SP this time around, I disagree too much with the lack of transparency regarding building rules. It’s not like there is much interaction with other players on most official servers I’ve tried.
@Mikey
It took me sometime but I met wonderful persons. The forum helped a lot. I have to admit and totally agree that the first “friends” I made in this game was on pvp servers… yes, go figure. Not five minutes before I send them message for news on messenger, we still talk. I went pvp, because back then on pve servers people just didn’t talk to each other, or at least to me. Now I know how to contact even if I play on consoles and we don’t have in game chat. I can tell who needs help and I provide it silently, if they want to talk, they will.
@souwaylier welcome to the forum. The decay timers can be visible to all the consoles with a repair hammer, fix one, hold it and look the item you need to see the timer. Sometimes however things can go buggy. I remember on Xel ha docks in the jungle some foundations were decaying really fast, later on I understand that I was building on a treasure chest. In the place that you placed the elevators, maybe it’s on the ghost chest. There are ghosts there that they indicate a location and a hidden chest rising from the ground. Maybe your elevators are close to this spawn and it goes buggy.
Can you please read some posts here so your trust level will rize. This way you will be able to upload a photo and I can help more. Thanks and welcome exile .
It is pretty weird. I’ve created a single foundation for testing purposes, and it had a 1h decay time.
A single foundation with elevator has 168h (7d) decay time.
Neither would’ve made sense, as we were using them more often than 7d days, but surely not every 1h.
If anyone’s curious, those elevators were set to access large iron deposits on nooblands, from the river to desert cliff around where F5 meets F4.
Anyways, thanks for a warm welcome and lots of advices, I already like this community.
