Last month I was able to play SWL without any problems, but now I get this error without having done anything. I installed DX9c from an installer (because the launcher says it’s already installed) and I haven’t been able to fix it either. I’ve tried everything and I’m still the same, and from what I can see there are a lot of people like me. I use Windows 11.
DirectPlay is ON, Graphic Tools on Optional Features added, graphic drivers updated, tried with compatibility with other Windows, opened with admin permit… nothing works.
Why?
PS: I tried with Secret World Classic and have the same problem.
What happened between you being able to play last month - to then SWL not working?
What was installed on your PC during that 1 month interval? (programs, applications, updates etc)
The more information you can provide on the timeline of that 1 month period, it might help someone to narrow down your issue and offer advice.
There are many of us who play SWL and TSW - sometimes we take breaks of months or years inbetween. Sometimes programs and applications and driver updates are done during that time, sometimes uninstalling and reinstalling SWL/TSW - As I have done myself. But I have never had an issue where I was unable to play.
I use Windows 10 - I don’t use Windows 11.
In your search bar on your PC you can type “dxdiag” - this will run your dx application and tell you what version you are currently running, it does note that if you are using windows 10 or 11 then you will (or should have) the most up to date version of DirectX.
For instance, mine says I am running DirectX12
Some people opt to use the DirectX9 version of the game as it can be more stable for them.
Sometimes programs and applications and updates can interfere with others.
If your launcher said that DirectX was already installed then why did you need to install if from another source? Because this information conflicts with your first line of
Have all DX installed (9, 10, 11 and 12). Installed through Microsoft but I have tried other installers that install all at once recommended by SWL players.
Since then I’ve installed a couple of games on Steam, nothing more. No programs or anything strange. If Windows 11 has been updated, I haven’t seen it because I don’t remember it asking me to restart.
Game says that i don´t have DX9 so he launchs the DX9 installer (included in SWL Folder). The program says that I have installed and is not required (that is true). And the process restarts again… the game tells me again that dx9 is missing, the program tells me that it isn’t, everything closes and a window appears to report the error.
I can’t start the game so I can’t touch the SWL options. Anyway, I can’t run SW Classic neither because says the same: “Direct X is out of date”.
Users who have reported this error on Discord have had to format their computer or go back to a very old backup. We have tried everything but nothing has worked.
My W11 version is 24H2
I don’t want to do it in case it deletes any important files or recently installed games with their saved games. Plus I’m a youtuber and it can delete preset configurations, assets, etc.
And could the problem then be coming from the fact that DirectX is installed on your C drive because it is a microsoft feature and will have come with windows - perhaps there is a conflict in where its trying to access direct X from?
Your computer says its installed - which it is
But the game says it isn’t.
Try moving the entire Funcom folder to your C drive and using the SecretWorldLegends.exe from within the folder.
I have moved my funcom folder from PC to PC many times and never had to reinstall.
I did it, it doesn’t work either.
I already said that I tried everything without solution hahaha
On the official Discord it is said that it could be something due to a Windows update (hence why it works again by restoring an old copy of your computer), but that is something I do not foresee doing.
I believe you can rollback and keep files, settings and programs if there is a restore point made where a windows update has caused an issue. I understand the worry of doing this, but if this is a windows issue, the only way to fix that - is to rectify windows.
If you say you have tried everything and this you do not want to do, then I am at a loss as to how you want to be helped. Windows updates don’t always go smoothly and errors can occur, this is why we have windows restore points and rollbacks available in the event that something has gone wrong.
If TSW is of no consequence to you and you would rather carry on as it is, then you can always just leave it as it is.
Of the many people who have the same issue reported on discord have any of them done a rollback or restore? Or have you all decided that is not an option for them also?
As I said before, they have restored or formatted. It’s not an option for me right now. I’ll wait to see if another Windows update comes out and fixes itself.
If not… well, I can’t be able to play and that’s it. I bought Windows so I could upgrade it to improve features, performance and/or security
