This is more of a modding question, but I know there are quite a few modders on the forums, and was hoping that maybe they could chime in here!
Do you think it would be possible to disable the auto-dismemberment/auto-decapitation through a mod, or is that something that is just too hard coded into the game?

Edited because I realized that was vague enough it might be mistaken for spam. 
The link is to the NoMoreHumanParts mod. It’s on my list of mods to try one day, though what I’d really like to do is limit the dismemberment and human parts to specific character types rather than removing it completely.
LitMan Less Blood disables dismemberment. I’ve used that in the past. It seems to cause some fatal errors when not updated to the most recent version of the game, so when the game updates you may need to disable this mod for a few days until LitMan updates the mod.
This also reduces the amount of blood and gore on the screen, so if you still want lots of blood, just without loose body parts, this may not be the mod for you.

Bad news, LitMan stopped updating the mod. I guess the question is whether or not the mod just simply needs to be updated to the latest version, or if something more has broken internally?
I’ve yet to really dig into modding, but this might be where I do it. He has released the source files for it, for others to continue on.
