No, they said it is managment.
You will have to place your thralls manually, find them every time you’ll want to replace a thrall with a better one, drag them back over when they wander too far from “their” bench, protect them from getting randomly killed by players or NPCs, you’ll have to walk them one by one if you decide to move your base, …
Well, no.
Right now, crafter thralls are effectively just a fancy particle effect that appears at the station you put them into. This update will turn them into complete NPCs with active AI, health, and all that.
This is an issue. From what I can remember (at work so can’t test) is that if a thrall is already stationed in a green spot then that spot is no longer accessible to place other thralls. And since you won’t be able to access the thralls in the benches anymore, you will have to find the thrall in your bustling base to move it to a new location/ delete to free up that space.
However how important is that as the benefits of the worker thralls are no longer linked to them being attached to the bench and will be determined by proximity of thrall to bench (spelling that out is telling me there is going to be significantly more processing consumption going on as each bench is reviewing each thrall that is around to see if they are ones that can benefit the bench production) .
Another interesting part. What’s the mosey distance for thralls assigned to spots ? If 50m is the limit of bench radius, will they have less than 50m mosey limits?
Also another question. The 50 m distance. Is it just 2D distance circle or is it a 3d distance sphere? If we have a tower, is there a vertical 50 m limit as well as the horizontal one?
I know that I will be in the minority but I actually love this. It adds so much to the idea of base defense and even in PVP, I can see this benefiting as you can’t just collect and bug out…you need to defend against the attack or lose your precious thralls.
Yep. It will definitely pain my playstyle too but in all honesty…it was pretty cheesy prior to just encumbrance build and pick up 14+ people along with all of your mats and put them in a pocket with the only pain point is that you can’t gallop your mount.
@Community Is this particular thread being monitored for further Q&A content?
I have a question: Someone said that the “auto-forced crafters” function would also activate thralls that are stowed in chests. Is that really the case? Many of us on the server collect thralls, if they were all thrown into the world at once - the server would collapse completely.
I don’t know who said that, but that’s not what they said on the stream. They said the thralls in your containers will remain as inventory items until you place them in the world.
Actually, based on the logic, theu can be placed anywhere near the bench and will show up as an option in their artisan matching bench. So if you have all three flavors of armoer, you can place them around the armorers bench, and all three will show up. The quesion is what if i have 6 named armorers close, which three are listed. And can one named show up in multiple benches, ie one smelter but affects all nearby furnaces with speed output?
Lots of miscommunications going on from those that are a bit upset over the changes.
Inventory thralls will remain in inventory until placed and then they will be active thralls at that point. While not mentioned in the stream, the bonuses that inventory crafters provided benches will probably not happen when this goes live and you will only get the thrall bonuses once you place them in active status.
The unknown right now is the little blurb @den said about the QA testing of server performance with these mosey thralls active and what may happen with active thrall limits. If this is being brought up, I suspect Den is warning us that he feels that the thrall limit will probably go down due to this change. If this is the case, we should be warned properly to prepare for this. The thing is that the inventory thralls will not affect your thrall total until placed and so if you are under the limit, you have control over when you want to start using the thralls and make your selection of who needs to go away. If they need to reduce the thrall count and you are maxed out already, this is the more concerning aspect and hopefully with enough warning you can make your selections prior so that you aren’t affected by a RNG removal.
From what they said and shown on the dev stream, the highest tier rank will be the active bonuses of the bench. When you have the specializations, they showed each specialization as a selection of which you want to do if the thrall is in the radius.
What would be nice is if when you select the crafting, that the thrall beelines it to the bench and starts getting to work however I don’t think it’s that established (HINT HINT if it isn’t).
Dont get me wrong, making bases more alive is cool feature, companions (unique) too
but i still dont get it…
Age of Heroes, so who are the heroes and what heroic specifically we gonna get with Ch1 of AoH?
i mean, really? what abilities and game changes\additions will make us heroes?
or again, we should wait 6-12 months for new chapters to actually get such kind of content?
EXACTLY! But in all fairness, AOW Chapt1 didn’t have much in the effects of war. Emblems, treasure, and combat revised. Not much as far as war goes until the purge in chapter 2 and the siege in chapter 3.
The thralls. Once again, players take the backseat to them.
This age is yet another thrall-focused update. Roleplayers and babysitter builds rejoice. If you want to play as a lone warrior taking down any challenge by yourself, tough luck. Try again next age.
why not boot up testlive now, go to single player, spawn in a bunch of thralls. put some in storage, some place in the world, some in benches. then when testlive updates you can see what the effect is and if any of the doomsday scenarios above are things
I have to wonder about that though. Can these thralls access and use doors, and if so can they just leave your base anyway and thus end up getting themselves killed regardless?
I know. But whatvid i place 2 of each T4 type in close proximity. How will it choose the 3? And can i place one T4 smelter by 4 furnaces, and it will buff all 4?
