Divine Magic: a solution to sorcery

Divine Icons:
Icons are holy symbols that channel divine energy from your god directly to you while in battle.

Source:
Crafted at the appropriate tier three god alter.

General function:
All icons will be equipped in the offhand/shield slot of players or thralls. The icon will emit a faint glow as long as the player has zeal appropriate to the icon in their inventory. When struck by a projectile, the icon will consume one(1) zeal item(I.e. ice shards or human hearts) and nullify the attack. Each icon will also have an individual effect based on the god it honors.

Variants:
Severed Head of Yog
Appearance: A shrunken head wrapped in the tentacles of Yogs avatar. Emits a faint purple glow.
Source: crafted at an Abyss of Yog with thirty(30) manifestations of zeal, three(3) fragments of power and a severed head(a rare drop found by killing Yog priests).
Function: using the icon while equipped will consume one(1) unblemished human meat and will release a cloud of acid around the wielder.

Coiled Serpent of Set
Appearance: a viper wrapped around a still beating heart. Emits a faint red glow.
Source: crafted at a Sanctum of Set with thirty(30) manifestations of zeal, three(3) fragments of power and a young serpent(a rare drop found by killing set priests).
Function: using the icon while equipped will consume one(1) human heart and will provide the wielder with one(1) minute of cleansing.

Idol of Mitra
Appearance: a handheld Phoenix statuette of solid bronze. Emits a faint silver glow.
Source: crafted at a Temple of Mitra with thirty(30) manifestations of zeal, three(3) fragments of power and a dormant idol(a rare drop found by killing Mitra priests).
Function: using the icon while equipped will consume one(1) lingering essence and will create a small earthquake effect around the wielder that knocks down enemies within range.

Black Skull of Ymir
Appearance: a skull carved out of black ice. Emits a faint blue glow.
Source: crafted at an Exalted Altar of Ymir with thirty(30) manifestations of zeal, three(3) fragments of power and one flawless black ice chunk(a rare drop found by killing Ymir priests).
Function: using the icon while equipped will consume one(1) ice shard and will create an area of extreme cold around the wielder.

Cornucopia of Derketo
Appearance: a cornucopia of decadence and death filled bones and aphrodisiacs. Emits a faint golden glow
Source: crafted at a Pleasure Palace of Darketo with thirty(30) manifestations of zeal, three(3) shards of power and a sacred aphrodisiac(a rare drop found by killing Darketo priests).
Function: using the icon while equipped will consume one(1) sliver of the unfulfilled and will create noxious cloud centered around the wielder.

Horn of Jhebbal Sag
Appearance: A broken horn wrapped in the fur of a sacred beast. Emits a faint gray glow.
Source: crafted at a Grove of Jhebbal Sag with thirty(30) manifestations of zeal, three(3) fragments of power and a sacred fur(a rare drop found by killing Jhebbal Sag priests).
Function: using the icon while equipped will consume one(1) sacred blood and will provide the wielder with one(1) minute of night vision.

Colors should be same as t3 shrine beams

Seems a bit wonky imo, too strong and I don’t want everybody to be forced into it

Which part seems overpowered or unbalanced?

Interesting idea. Tho I don’t fully understand why kill your own priests for the special items. Wouldn’t it be logical to gather something from the opposing avatar worshippers? Like a voodoo thing where you take something specific from the target you want to hurt, form a doll or something from the gathered items and curse it. Now your special item is ready and can be utilised against the specific avatar the item is derived from.

Just a thought.

The voodoo trick sounds cool. I suggest that we kill our own priest because players are forced to farm their own priests to obtain an arch priest. These rare drops just give you an extra little reward while you struggle to get that tier 3 priest to spawn. I was also thinking that it would be a guaranteed drop on archpriests if you accidentally kill one

Thing is, magic-using priests in the Conan lore were sorcerers, too. The more modern division into “arcane” and “divine” magics didn’t really exist. Priests were like our medieval priests - people with knowledge, titles and political power but little magic of their own. Those who could do magic in the Hyborian Age practiced sorcery in some form or another, whether by sacrificing live victims to dark gods or imprisoning elphant-headed aliens in a tall tower.

The D&D-esque magic-wielding clerics came into fantasy fiction later.

This strikes me as a very interesting idea. Although I would really just want this to be one of many sorcerous activities if we ever get to delve into that abyss. This could be more for the religiously fanatic players or just something really cool as reward for grinding your altar to T3. Thank you for giving Ymir a black ice skull, and all the other thingies sound awesome!

With the time i come to accept the fact that magic won’t be as the original vew from funcom.

But plz, i would love to be able to sacrifice/crucify/ritualise with corpse or alive player !
Even if those were decorative props i would be happy

(that doesn’t mean i don’t wan’t sorcery in game, so go ahead and put sorcery in game fc^^)

I understand your concern. I wouldn’t call these items sorcery but rather a start in the right direction. My goal with this concept was to give players a another way to utilize zeal items. I don’t claim to have read all the source material but I figure if altars can summon avatars, would it be so far fetched to assume a smaller scale conduit could summon scaled down effects?

Thank you! I appreciate the support. I don’t think of this concept as one that will encompass sorcery entirely. Rather I hope it’s an idea that gets the developers moving in that direction. I figured utilizing effects that are already present in the game could be a simple start for the developers to show the fans that they are still trying even though sorcery itself is an extremely daunting task.

For sure! I love this game and I will be totally happy with the developers taking baby steps towards big concepts like sorcery. They have exceeded my expectations with how often they release new content.

It just seems like something that every pvper will have to carry around to be competitive. For example, the ymir one in hotter areas where people wear heat armor would be busted. Jhebbal sag would be useless as well because nightvision isn’t that big of an advantage compared to the others. I just don’t want everybody to be forced into making and carrying this stuff around for pvp

Oh, so it’s an emphasis on the farming variable. Thanks for the clarification.
