Fatal error crash that seems common but no Dev help

I have seen a few other exact same posts and nobody seems to be able to help. The devs seem to respond asking for info and then never respond with help after they get a response back.

No mods either

Recieving Fatal Error on startup.

Start from steam> Launch from Funcom launcher > Recieve fatal error and crash report window when Conan window opens, video scene plays only the UE4 part and then freezes and crashes.

Error type recieved:

Fatal error!

Ive tried

The log doesn’t show it, but D12 is recommended. I see D11 being used and not deprecated.

No there is nothing after that final line, should there be? unless I am possibly looking at this wrong.

I did look at that page but do not see anything that applies for me to report. There is no category for bugs/crashes.

I can try d12 and see how it goes. thank you.

btw I assume you are meaning directx12 which is what my system shows as having. I also found a video that showed me a way to force dx12 use through steam. I am still getting the same crash though. Below will be the most current log.

With regards to your log file and gpu adapters this is normal log entries and is based upon the source code for ue4.

What you are not seeing and is why you are not able to progress is the response with regards to this

ConanSandbox:Display: GetGameTweakDataPatchPath ‘…/…/…/ConanSandbox/Saved/Config/WindowsNoEditor/DataPatches/’ does not exist

It always comes straight after the request for realtime.

Interesting combo. I see it found D3D12, but I also see it is running win32 in a 64bit box. That is also okay. :nerd_face:

I downloaded the game a few days ago and havent been able to play at all. I tried to play maybe 6 months ago as well and I was getting a crash bug as well but just gave up and uninstalled the game. I am not sure about details the last time it happened.

First of all in regard to the title - this is clearly an issue that’s specific to your laptop, the maintenance of which is not up to the developers.
If you can pinpoint an actual bug with reproduction steps that they can log as a bug report, then that’s fair, but very few if any game developers will proceed to help you troubleshoot your own computer when millions of other people are playing the same game just fine. So unless it’s a reproduceable crash that can be reported and logged for them to fix, they can’t really be of much help.


There’s nothing actually useful in your log so everything based on that is just speculation. Looks perfectly normal up to the point where it abruptly stops due to the crash.
The crash happens pretty much at the point when the game starts trying to load the various packages, so despite the Steam validation coming up empty, it’s still possible that some of the game packages got corrupted during download.
What you could try is to manually delete the contents of ConanSandbox\Content\Paks\ and then run the verify integrity again so Steam redownloads these files.

Make sure that you indeed got the correct drivers from the actual chip manufacturers and you weren’t using some form of “automatic driver updater… malware” (as most of those are), also could try a proper uninstall of the old ones with DDU, thou it shouldn’t be needed in most cases


Does your crash popup window have any more information? Sometimes when the log doesn’t give much of a clue, the one-liner message on the popup might.

There was a situation in the past (though I figured it’s been corrected as I haven’t seen anyone have that for a while) where the presence of a certain log file actually prevented the game from loading. In that situation the error popup was blank and the game carried on loading despite the crash message and only exited once you hit Ok on the box.
If that’s something you think you might have, then just delete the entire ConanSandbox\Saved\Logs folder and try loading the game again.


Further info might be present in your windows event viewer, so if all else fails, you could take a look in there and see what’s happening on your system when you’re trying to load the game

As for the Drivers I have made sure I got the correct drivers from the source,I usually just use the Nvidia app for my GPU so I would assume that is usually fine. and for the Paks file I will have to get back to you. my internet isnt the best so that download will be about 14hrs since the Pak seems like most of the content of the game itself. Finally for the Logs folder, I have already attempted that previously. Ill get back to you when the download is done.

You may have gotten the BSOD (blue screen of death). It will first send crash data to Microsoft unless fully opted out. :innocent:

Oh, looking at this thread again I just had a thought.
You say this is the first time you try to load this game on that PC, I didn’t see you specify that but assuming you’re using Win11… You’re also trying to load the game up WITH battle-eye…

Those two things are actually incompatible in a sense that if you never bothered to turn off core isolation, then battle-eye would indeed cause a crash as it’s attempting to access the memory regions used by other stuff to check for cheats.
Would expect something hinting to battle-eye in the crash messages though, but that’s not necessarily the case.

In any case, give it a try, open Core Isolation in Windows (can just type it in the start menu search) and toggle off memory integrity enforcement and then try to load the game as normal.
