Foundations Continue To Break Underground Spawn Points

Game mode: Online official
Type of issue: Bug
Server type: PvE
Region: EU
Mods?: No
Edition: Steam

Bug Description:

Foundation placement above caves still breaking spawns. Of note, Sinner’s Refuge and Skittering Cavern. Placement of any foundation blocks above these areas permanently disables content from being able to spawn as long as those foundations remain. The behavior persists for all caves that allow building above them. This removes access to all named NPC spawns in Sinner’s Refuge and removes access to the world boss The End of All Hope.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Place any amount of foundations above the mentioned locations on the map.
  2. Kill off the NPC’s below.
  3. No NPC’s will spawn until those foundations are removed.

Recommendation, remove the foundation check for these spawn locations or disable building on top of them.

I never thought of this as a bug but it really is.

It really is. It is a major contributor to no-foundation build servers existing.

It’s not a bug, it’s how the landclaim system works. The variable in size only changes on the x and y axes. Z-axis has always been straight up and down as far as it’ll go, like a giant cylinder that only expands in diameter.

But the system is bugged because it doesn’t take into account the Z axis. I was with you and just discounted it as part of the system but after reading the post…it is a bug that we just overlook…for some reason. The spawning distance/block effect should be in all 3D space, not just topographic and infinite on the z axis.

It’s not a bug - it’s a poor-decision that’s part of the system as it is built. I’m not a fan of it either as it keeps me from building in some spots I’d want to but that’s how it was made. This is semantics, obviously, but words do still mean things.

EDIT: which is not to say that it isn’t high-time that Funcom took another look at their landclaim system. I get why they made it they way they did - you don’t want someone with an abundance of free time and a proportional deficit of ‘not being a jerk’ to completely encase someone’s base in a cube overnight. But there’s gotta be a way they can have that without completely removing everything in the radius. I already set the landclaim area to the absolute minimum in my game because I like having rocks and trees coming up just outside the wall and not having vast wastelands surrounding my stuff. Maybe that fancy new system of not having grass poke up through foundations anymore can be utilized for it or something, I don’t know.

I’m sorry to it’s still happening on ps4 thought it supposed to have been fixed along time ago ran into it on a pve server a few weeks ago fortunately I contacted the owner of base and they moved shortly after was blocking back half Sinners refuge. Good people fortunately. It should be impossible to block spawns in such away by accident and these people had no idea.

Yup, that is the absolute best case scenario. The person is active more than once every 2 weeks to refresh and they pull it down. That is not the usual. I think, for those particular locations, their spawn nodes should 100% override the foundations ability to disable spawning. Not certain what that would look like code wise but being cut off from content is not cool.
