FPS Performance issues when it rains after patch 2.7

Game mode: Single-player
Type of issue: Performance
Server type: PvE
Region: North America
Mods?: No
Edition: Steam

Bug Description:

After patch 2.7, whenever it’s raining, my framerate drops from around 60 fps to around 40.

I imagine that there must be a lot of complex calculations going on for the game to avoid rendering rain indoors, but honestly, if this is the price to pay for such a feature, I’d rather not have it. There are some other games where this feature can be turned on or off as part of the graphics settings, so if there is no way to optimize it, it should at least be optional.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Build moderately sized structure (12 x 12 tiles, 6 tiles high) in an area where it rains.
  2. Wait for rain to start.
  3. Observe severe drop in performance near your building.

Notes: This only happens while it’s raining. Performance goes back to normal when it’s not raining.

Was about to report the same, seens like I was imagining the rain detection is causing FPS drop from proccessing.

Experienced this issue after the update as well, identical to how Aediin described it. Raining (while inside or outside) coincided with a reduction in FPS of about 20, sometimes much more. Never had this happen before the update.

I further agree with Aediin that making dry indoors optional could be a practical solution.
