Long story short, some agree, some disagree, and there’s a lot of extremely strong opinions on both sides. I’m with you, though. Some form of communication, a warning, something. It doesn’t even have to be 2-way communication. Just a quick letter explaining the reason and a link to zendesk to appeal it.
