So I created a golem of each type, nothing special just basic golems. I found that for some reason there are a lot of unwalkable surfaces when trying to relocate them.
That’s really it, I made them and tried to place them and it’s more difficult than it should be.

I am having the same problem. Most foundations/ceiling and most of the normal ground area around my base count as not walkable surface for golem for some reason. So can’t place it there.
I have the same issue. You can place a carpet down and the golem will stand on that.
I had that too but tried anyway and it put down and works fine anyway. I think it is just giving the error in error. Try placing anyway.
