Help in idenfiying if I'm under DDOS attack during a pvp battle

How does one identify if you are under ddos attack, viz what are the symptoms. I was fighting a guy and what kept happening is that I lagged and immediately he was slicing me with daggers. He’s killed me twice right now and both times I’m lagging when I get the 6+ bleeds.

My thralls don’t aggro him at my base (are there server settings that regulate that?) and both times I’ve died it’s when lagging the moment he moves in for a kill.

Now, in all likelyhood he’s a better pvp’er than me, but I’m suspicious and before I go around ranting I want to find out what are the symptoms of DDOS attacks and if there are any thrall related hacks that might prevent my thralls from aggroing a player (when they aren’t aggroed on anything else).

The thralls not attacking sounds more like a ‘core’ system problem with the AI, which hopefully will be getting some work done soon. Not sure how they react to pvp in pve-c servers, but they should be active 24/7 on a pvp server.

It may be possible that the attacker is using some malicious software that’s causing lag for his victims. I’d be surprised if there aren’t cheaters doing it. When I’ve been victim of DDOS in the past, it’s generally long lag spikes, usually accompanied by a disconnect. I’m not sure how this game disconnects clients from bad connections though, so we may not get a disconnect.

On the other hand, you may be extremely unlucky and get lagged down by the nearby structures and/or lighting. Perhaps your internet provider.

The battle happened in a PVP game with all day raiding. I had 6 thralls on a roof with bows and axes he once even climbed up on the roof and the thralls didn’t aggro.

It’s possible that this is related to the Boss I had kited to the base to have my thralls kill. Though, for most of the time only one thrall was aggroed on the boss.

I didn’t get a disconnect but I did have lagg spikes despite no large buildings (apart from my 7x6x4 structure) nearby.

The thralls are definitely a game issue then. From my observations, when they are working, you should have 3 thralls doing their job on a single enemy.

I suppose you could ask around the server (when the opponent is offline) and see if anyone else has had similar issues when facing them down. If that problem is shared with others, then It’d be safe to assume there is some kind of ‘cheater-ware’ involved.

viz the thrallls, turns out I just didn’t know the correct raid times.

Thralls will only attack players or be hurt by players during “Raid” times. Thralls are attached to the building destruction mechanics. If you can’t hurt a build, you can’t hurt a thrall and your thrall won’t hurt another player.

As for DDOS, I don’t know.

Did you use the lock on target?
There was / is a issue when using the lock on target with lots of status effects. The more effects the laggier it gets. Turning it off / not using it removes the lag completly

If you didn’t lose connection to the internet, you most likely weren’t being hit by a ddos attack. You can always check your modem interface, usually it records things like DoS attacks in the Firewall Logs or Event Logs. Your ISP should have instructions on how to log into your modem and use the interface to check logs.
