How Funcom Ruined My Life

, ,

I agree that the exaggeration went over a few peoples’ heads. The ideas are expressed clearly and the reasons for being upset are explained relatively clearly. There’s no chance a life was actually ruined over this update.
… But what I didn’t expect was that we would get a version of the game that wasn’t even from Testlive (the Stamina had not been changed immediately, etc).

The update in current form is less than appealing to a lot of people in its current state myself included, but maybe (inhales the copium) it will be much better soon?

Is it a stupid way or is it the stupidest way in the history of ever?

Hyperbole when represented as fact is embarrassing. Hyperbole as satire is, well, satire.

We will have to disagree on this subject.

Exactly.

And the version we had on Testlive/Beta did not crash Siptah due to treading in several locations. Currently, when I join Siptah, I crash two separate servers, based entirely on my location. This is a variation of the Ashlands issue where your client would crash because, reasons. But, luckily, with the most expert coding and testing in the world, ever, they have extended this situation to take down the client AND servers.

That’s what I call late 1990’s .com style progress!

Here’s what I think: Funcom did what they always do in every update: “What’s already bad that we can make worse?” Every attempt to balance the game makes it worse.

But this time, Funcom went even further: “What’s great that we haven’t ruined yet?”

Funcom is definitely sabotaging their own game. Whether the goal is to slowly kill the game, I don’t know. But that’s the path it’s heading down.

While I agree Funcom is sabotaging the game, I do not believe there is enough competence being displayed for it to be deliberate.

One of the things I learned many decades ago was there are, essentially, two types of creators. Those who see their work going off-path and are determined to keep adding to it, believing if they try hard enough, everything will be okay and those that see their work go off-path and stop, reset, and clean slate a solution.

An example of this was a tech who worked for me in the early 2000’s. We were getting 30-40 new laptops in a week to provision. This tech decided to create a master install disk to “save time.” The problem was that Dell used a lowest cost model for parts and the drivers for the same model of the same laptop manufactured at the same time, were different.

They spent a week to setup their master install disk, used it on all laptops, then spent, on the average, 1.5 hours updating various drivers per laptop.

The time to do a base install? Around 60 minutes.

I told them they needed to stop. They were adamant that they didn’t want all the time they had spend on the initial disk to go to waste.

Funcom producers are this person. Determined to justify bad decisions rather than admit there is a better way and embrace it.

Because while everyone complains about the devs, the devs are implementers, not deciders.

Feedback presented in the form of satire has its disadvantages, because it relies on the receiving person’s ability to identify satire, as well as pick the actual feedback.

Again, it comes to whether you want attention, or whether you want to give useful feedback.

We are going to have to disagree on this.

Funcom ruined my life by making a game that has to be the most addictive game I’ve ever played.
Then pushed it down the stairs.

I really should have thought of that while I was drunkenly shit posting about this broken game. I would feel so much better about my impact on the world. Thanks for the free enlightenment big dawg. Really guzzling that feedback over here. Just chugging that 200 IQ.

Yes, you should have. Drunken shit posts are a thing you should avoid. You never know, next time you might drunkenly shit post about something that’s actually important to you, and actually ruin your life.

I do appreciate you taking a week to come up with your witty retort. It shows that you are capable of consideration.
