So I used to use the Dedicated Server application frequently, but after I got a new WiFi provider I can’t actually reserve ports anymore. Is it possible to use the Dedicated Server Host app without ports? Is there a work around? Or is it simply not possible for people with EERO wifi to host?
The ability to port forward is dependent on your carrier. Frontier is my ISP (using EERO wifi) and I was able to port forward just fine. Sadly EERO decided not to use a standard gateway, so you can’t access it through the usual methods (192.168.1.1 or 10.0.0.1), but you can access it through the EERO app (under advanced settings). I didn’t want the app on my phone so I used BlueStacks to emulate it on my PC.
You should contact your ISP to see if they have actually prohibited you from using port forwarding, because EERO does not, they just make it difficult. Best of luck to ya.
Okie, if you wouldn’t mind, could you explain how you set it up through the EERO app? TO the best of my know-how I followed all of the steps to reserve ports, I did as follows; (Note: My EERO is by Metronet)
EERO App → Network Settings → Reservation N Port Forwarding → IPv4 Reservations N Port Forwards → New → Open Port Num, then I did the 3 default numbers in the Ded Launcher (7777, 7778, 27015)
Side note; Its been a while since I’ve looked at this, and im just now noticing that I’m not sure if the app is even able to connect to the EERO router . . . Ugh . . . Edit: The reason I now suspect this as a problem is because in the CE Application in the top of the network thing, the router selected isn’t a EERO brand router which is what I currently have. When clicking on it no other options appear either.
In the DSL (Dedicated Server Launcher), the drop down selection is for your network adapter (which is in your computer), not the router that is attached to your modem. Your network adapter can be a number of different brands (including ‘Intel’ or ‘Realtek’) but most importantly, it will list your local IP address (192.168.x.x). Your PC likely only has one network adapter which is why it only gives you one option.
I don’t remember what the exact steps were (as I suggested, you should contact your ISP), but what you listed above seems good. Are the lights next to the ports in the DSL green when you run the test? If not, it’s possible that your port forwarding was done incorrectly, or that your ISP doesn’t allow it. Either way, you should contact your ISP (Metronet).
Side-note, if you are running this DSL on the same machine that you’re playing Conan on, then you will want to switch to alternate ports (example: 7790, 7791, 27020), because your game client is already using the default ports.
If you continue to have problems after contacting your ISP, then try asking @Toolguy on his DSL thread:
