Is there some sort of out of office response in CE?

I’m reminded of a quote from the Street Fighter movie, “For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday.”

And the reason I say this, is usually when I’m running with a crew or some of my veteran buddies, we do our thing. We don’t get to know the people we clash with when we PVP, we don’t do things because of personal reasons, and the things we do aren’t really that important.

But for some reason, those people get crossed in a major way and then spend much of their waking hours trying to make our lives as miserable as possible. People are petty. If they think you did something to wrong them. If they have a sliver of a thought process that you did something or thought about doing something to them. They’ll go out of their way, even to the detriment of themselves and their buddies to try and cause you harm.

Its not a crazy normal experience in PVP. But if you play on a server in a game long enough, you’ll eventually end up on someone’s s-list.

If only it was about high fiving clanmates. Its much more petty, malicious, and sad than that.

One of the last times I had to deal with this as a server admin was ridiculous (this one I wasn’t the target it of however). Its a bit of a long story, so I’ll try to abridge it as best I can. I’m going to call one clan the Jungle Clan because thats where they were, and the other involved, the North Clan for the same reason.

North Clan decided to raid the Jungle Clan. I think there was about 5 or 6 of them, the Jungle Clan had maybe 3 players online. So they were getting hammered. It was causing a bit of a ruckus as any raids did on the server. I think I was building something at the time or gathering mats so I stayed out of it, but some of my clanmates decided to help the Jungle Clan, being the underdogs and all that.

They were able to push out the North Clan but not before they did some damage and made off with some decent loot. No harm, no foul though. Its Conan. Raiding is kind of the theme of the whole IP. The next day the Jungle Clan went to us and a few others about a raid against the North Clan.

All tall we had about a dozen people. Then began setting up. The North Clan saw the setup and called on their allies. We called on some other favors and before long, it was a a God damned war of over 20 people per side.

The fight went on for several hours. Every kind of weapon was being used. Spears, Swords, Hammers, Bombs, Bows, Javelins, Trebs, Orbs, everything by both sides. Probably some of the best PVP I’ve seen in Conan. Eventually the North Clan called for a truce, as their base was going to eventually be wiped from the amount of ordinance being flung.

They returned everything they took the day before. Everyone’s equipment who played in the fighting and died had gotten mostly what they lost (not possible to keep track, but it was done enough to satisfy everyone). And our clan gave them back materials to rebuild with.

It seemed like everyone had a great time just fighting the war. And you gotta admit, it sounds awesome and it was, my words don’t do it justice. So why not let everyone go home with what they started with. And I think the Jungle Clan even got some extra for being victims the day before.

Now for the twist. This wasn’t enough for the Jungle Clan. Yep, the allies my clan helped out. They decided to crap in the cheerios of the North Clan every chance they could from that point onward.

See the North Clan didn’t raid the Jungle Clan because of any slight, or for any reason that was personal. They just wanted to raid somebody., they just wanted to PVP. Well on a PVP server that is what you do. You PVP. For some reason the guys in the Jungle Clan thought they were singled out, and wanted even more payback.

Mind you, they just had a server encompassing war on their behalf where they benefited more than they lost. But this wasn’t enough. So to cut this long story short. They decided to get the admins involved.

A few days later, I get sent this video made by Jungle Clan of some supposed rule breaking. I watched it about 3 or 4 times and couldn’t make any damn sense of it. Even using the timestamps provided. So I sent it to another admin to look. Come to find out, they were trying to bait the North Clan peeps into breaking a rule. But I guess they forgot their discord conversation was in the video.

This is why I was confused because they were discussing breaking the very rule that they were reporting. I was trying to wrack my brain on how they got ahold of someone’s discord audio, but it wasn’t matching with what I was seeing. Except it was, it was them, not the North Clan that they were reporting.

Dumb twits just implicated themselves. I don’t think we actioned them. But let’s just say they got caught breaking several other rules over the next few days and they were eventually kicked from the server. They couldn’t let the one raid go. A raid that didn’t wipe them. A raid that led to a war that ended in their benefit.

And just so you know I’m using an extreme example. Being raided can understandably put a bad taste in one’s mouth. I’ve seen people get into feuds over much smaller things. Things like taking a building spot. Fighting over thralls. Or what have you, like I said, sometimes its perceived slights, and not even real ones.

If you have no idea what you did, its possible you did nothing. Only that the peeps thought you did. And just for the record, this bickering and pettiness isn’t limited to PVP. PVEers can be just as nasty and petty and just as often in my experience. This is a player problem and not a strictly PVP or PVE one. I wanted to nip that one in the bud.
