Realistically, resin is acquired by tapping trees, and pitch (which is a form of both resin and tar, but not the nice clear orange resin in the game) is acquired by drying wood.
Ark does this one right. They have tree taps for gathering sap (resin). But it really doesn’t matter too much if it isn’t true to RL, so long as they get the right words for the right material in descriptions.
Well the current recipe of 1 wood = 2 dry wood + 1 resin is a bit silly. They could remove the extra dry wood that poofs into existence like some kind of macro-scale virtual particle and make the recipe be 1 wood = 1 dry wood + 1 resin + 1 tar instead.
The journey steps are to teach, so they have to be right. Just think how frustrating it would be for a newbie to try to get tar from wood in a dryer and get resin.
