Katana moves need buff

Hello exiles, my name is Error. Ok, to whoever reads this and may respond, I would like to give you some feedback on the current katana movements, especially on the times they currently have between frames and combo animations.
Needless to say, I fully understand that this is not SEKIRO, NIOH, THE WAY OF THE SAMURAI or RISE OF RONIN. But I don’t understand why this nerf is on this weapon. Being that it is literally the most balanced weapon in the world in all of history. Considering that this game has a lot of content based on real history. I think that any type of the 500 existing kenjutsu (fighting styles with katanas) is much faster than what is currently in Conan Exiles. Adding of course that it is an extremely agile weapon. It can’t be that it is slower than a guy using a 50 kilo hammer. Do you understand the point? I’m not asking for animations to be changed or added. I’m saying that the attack time between combos is very slow, especially in the heaviest attack. If we go to Elden Ring or Dark Souls, the character can move when he has the katana sheathed, (it’s something natural, sheathing and moving to prepare the best blow, the enemy NEVER STAYS STILL. Why should I?) I’m not nailing my feet to the ground just to prepare to attack! Besides that, I should also be able to dodge if I’m not going to attack (since for some reason I can’t defend either… being that a katana is not only for attacking, but it has exactly the same level of defense as it is for attack.)
In Conan Exiles, the only weapon that can defend by removing the shields, is a two-handed axe. (I understand that you are Nordic and love axes) but a katana, in addition to cutting, is also made to deflect attacks. (at least partial blocks if you want) To round out the topic, I would like to see the attack time of the heaviest move shortened and that it can be combined with combos or defenses. Lastly, if you look at most kenjutsu, a swordsman always uses other attack resources such as the famous samurai front kick (literally like the battle axe) without mentioning of course that there are many styles where when jumping you can do aerial cuts. I understand that the game is always in constant development and changes. I played when they first released the katanas and the truth is that today it is very close to being excellent. These are just complaints comparing it with other weapons in the game, such as the double daggers, which with each basic hit produce bleeding and other effects. In current pvp everything comes down to using brute force, running, hitting once and running away… at the very least I should be able to block with a ■■■■■■ katana. Please I hope you take into account these humble words from an old solitary swordsman. Thank you very much for reading. Have a great day/night. ありがとうございました。

balance wise…it is already an extremely effective weapon. I think some dude did a DPS test, and Musashi Blackblade won against pretty much every other weapon.

But I get what you are saying and you are very informed on the topic apparently.
I fully support a push for a broader move set for basically all weapons.
Combat is basic in this game, which is good and bad. Good for beginners, bad if you want to distinguish yourself with a weapon type by knowing the timing and rotations for certain “executes” maybe.
I’d predict this won’t be getting any sort of overhaul, especially a satisfying one.

It need a broader moveset. Been saying it for years.

At times it feels like SH2, Katana which wooshs over ground when you swing.

Its one of my fave weapons… but alot of them feel under… black blade shines, some of other don’t.

Thou personally, ALOT of weapons need better combos between light and heavy, or back stepping and attacking have a move of its own.

If you think Katana is arbitrarily too slow, wait until you practice Fiore or Lichetenauer and then see what they call a two handed sword.

If realism is your kick, just imagine a Bec De Corbin being a slab of metal on a stick.

For maximum amusement, back to the Katana, have you noticed it cannot be used while mounted?

That said,

This one salutes your trolling.

I’m confused. Are we arguing that the katana should be better because of realism, or because of how it works in other games?

Because neither argument has any real value when it comes to how the katana works in Conan Exiles. Conan Exiles is not a simulation of a realistic combat, it’s a game. And it’s not some of those other games the OP named, it’s a game of its own and doesn’t need to work like Souls (because it doesn’t, won’t, and should not work like Souls).

Realistically, a katana is relatively short for what is essentially a two-handed weapon, so its basic reach is mediocre. (Yes, a katana can be used one-handed, but in real life, so can a spear. Or even a greatsword in a pinch.)

It has poor hand protection compared to many Western weapons. And it does basically zero damage against armor. It is a very good weapon for cutting down unarmored rebelling peasants, though, in a similar role to the more westernly falchion.

As to how the use of a katana is taught in real life, we have “masters” like this lady https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X62lZvfZC9o. So following her advice, you can do impressive circus tricks with a sword, or you can basically commit suicide in combat (in the disclaimer she encourages to use those moves in self defense, which is nonsense in so many levels - for one, most countries don’t allow one to carry a self-defense katana, and second, those moves only work if your attacker is cooperating with you by walking into your strike arc). Compared to that, Conan Exiles katana moves almost make sense.

I acknowledge that I dug out a worst-case scenario of a sword trainer, and that there are skilled fighters with a katana who train proper fighting - but the same applies to other weapons (in the game and in real life as well). No-one in their right mind would do an overhead chop with a greatsword right down to the ground, because it’s bad for your sword, and it’s bad for you. In the game, wielding a mace looks like you’re dancing the bloody Swan Lake.

And of course, in the real world, you can use any weapon to block attacks, whether it’s a sword, an axe, a mace or a polearm, whereas rolling on the floor would quickly get you killed.

So why fixate on the katana, of all weapons, when it’s far from the worst offender in both realism and playability?

I would favor a complete overhaul of all weapon animations to be more realistic.
While I would cherish such an overhaul,
I fear the implementation of it to be a near impossible task at this stage.

It’s by far the most effective weapon on agility build.
It’s by far the easiest weapon to gain on exile lands map and devs should really consider the suggestion of @LostBrythunian and place this weapon on a random hidden room or the final boss room.
The only real issues this weapon have are 2.

  1. The fatality system, i need not to say anything else about it.
  2. In order to gain stamina back i have to be a clown. No, this weapon has the best move set and you shouldn’t be a clown to gain your stamina back.

The attack moveset of katana is amazing in this game, it just needs these 2 tweaks above. There’s no weapon as effective as katana is in the game right now.

So i find no reason for buff!

Katanas were mediocre-bad weapons, rusting and bending easily.
All that folding and layering process was done to make a horrible quality of iron somewhat work as a sword.
It was so bad that they never made an usable double edged katana despite centuries of attempts.

It was a weapon of malnourished 5 foot tall dude in pyjamas. They held it with both hands as they lacked physical strength to cause proper damage by holding the sword in one hand.

This is why I would like katanas to be removed, it caters to anime lovers not lovers of realism.

Priceless…

This game is not realistic at all. You would need to remove/change more than just the Katana.
