We have so little information on these people, other than they’re full on eldritch abomination worshippers, who submitted their entire selves to whatever horrors lurk in the Outer Dark.
From what I found, the main source of information about them and their mindset are the lore notes on three weapons dropped by a miniboss named Ridrik The Mad: Morda, Skada and Bryta, which apparently translate into Death, Enthrallment and Madness.
Death/Morda represents the demise of the old way of thinking before an Accursed’s awakening in the outer dark.
Enthrallment/Skada represents the point after awakening when an Accursed submits mind, body, and soul to the whispers from the outer dark.
Bryta/Madness is the point at which the whispers from the outer dark begin to make sense, which makes them manic and psychotic.
It’s interesting to note that Morda’s icon is a serpentmen warhammer, which would hint at how did these weapons find their way in our dimension.
Also, their named members are the same Forgotten Tribesmen we meet in Exiled Lands. Gameplay-wise it’s probably to give the IoS players access to the same good thralls the EL players have, but lorewise it’s still interesting how, say, Dalinisia ended up on Siptah and shed her grim and somber Cimmerian personality to become the insane cosmic horror cultist.
In some areas they seem venerate the Gray Ones, or at least keep the area decorated with signs of those also lore-lite denizens of Siptah.
According to a note found at one of the Pirate camps, they (or at least the individual captured) are masochists, laughing during torture.
Their gear includes Cimmerian armour and Star metal weapons, and their camps frequently have smithing stations, which indicate they are practitioners of advanced Metallurgy.
Priests of Ymir appear amongst them, so they still have religion.
This one could go on…
But it’s very difficult to see where the actual Accursed begin and where the lazy/sloppy port of the Forgotten Tribe ends.
Especially when compared to the Stygian Invaders and Black Corsairs (altho there is quite a bit of bleed in from the Black Hand there), they feel very hastily ported over.
Unlike the Gray Ones and the First Men, who seem to have a story and relation to the events of Siptah even if it is obscure or perhaps underdeveloped, the Accursed seem like an almost clean copy pasta.
Which is such a shame, because they could have easily been slapped in Primitive and Primeval gear, given Eldarium or Gray Ones (or the later Forlorn) weapons, even Ancient or the various Hound/Lliogor themed ones for that matter, and then even with the stats overlap, they would have felt distinct and would have had a living connection to more of Siptah 's history.
Howard and Lovecraft were, how do the youngsters say it, besties.
Proliferate pen pals who shared ideas eagerly and enthusiastically, happily including each other’s ideas and even works.
In the Exiled Lands, it’s even questionable if any of the religions are real.
Mitra doesn’t accept human sacrifice anywhere else.
One might note the strange weather around Siptah creates a similar interference and opportunity for psycho reactive predation/manipulation.
@Jimbo has a very developed idea of how the religion/cosmology of the snow globe works and who is actually playing the flute that everyone dances to.
Someone at some point had a very very long post (a thesis, almost) about lore pertaining to the Gods. In a nutshell it was about how they weren’t actually the Gods but manipulations from the Outer Dark.
As far as The Accursed go they’re my favorite merry band of loons.
