The latest June 23rd patch made gamepad use more reliable, but still bugs remain.
-
Opening any station or container and then moving via D-pad or stick to browse slots is extremely hit or miss. Sometimes it will invisibly jump to the quick select bar where the selected item is “lost” on screen and is difficult to get it back into view. This is NOT FIXED despite being in patch notes.
-
Sometimes when opening a station or container and immediately trying to navigate slots using D-pad, some directions may work while others don’t - for example there is still likely a chance that moving “down” does not work at all, yet moving “right” actually works
-
When opening a station or container and immediately moving with D-pad or stick causes selection to glitch out - possibly a loading/sync issue where the inventory contents has not fully populated but where selection is actively trying to move across items by the user. Either add an “all loaded” state before UI appears or before gamepad navigation can begin moving selection
-
A never-before-fixed bug across legacy Conan Exiles still remains and is worse now in CEE: When moving selection with gamepad in inventory/station/chest screen across “panels”, such as where it jumps from the left inventory pane, to a middle pane, and even over to the right side (typically crafting queue) pane, the selection often disappears or gets lost among all the available elements and doesn’t intuitively move across the screen.
MY RECOMMENDATION - and I’ve believed this since 2018 Conan:
There are many small UI elements that can actively be navigated/highlighted while moving with gamepad - dropdown menus, start/stop button, name edit fields, etc. However, the main grid or row inventory sections should ALWAYS “catch” the selection when moving across the panes from left or right. This is because these should always have priority and likely match user expectation of where the selection should go. Please see my screenshot below for example:
I’ve had to shake my head over the years at the comedy sometimes of where the selection wildly jumps to when moving between certain inventory screens in ways that don’t make ANY sense.
This is even further worsened by yet another legacy Conan Exiles bug, where each pane can have a separate ordering (Name, Heaviest etc) and moving back and forth between panes can sometimes snap the selection in unseen ways by some preferred system ordering, making the user wonder where the heck the cursor even is.
-
Quick loot while looking at a container was either L2 or R2 - I can’t remember since you changed it. It’s now Pressing in R3 stick. Please either revert it back or add the ability to map keybindings.
-
And on that note, please add KEYBINDINGS IN GENERAL. You remastered the game on UE5, but absolutely stiffed us by stripping away all useful controller support, leaving only basic mapping features.
-
Start/stop crafting button is REMOVED - We used to be able to Hold L2 trigger to start/stop stations. You removed this. Now, we have to navigate over to highlight the play button, even worsened by the fact the selection always plays hide and seek with us and gets buried in invisible X/Y focus elements. Please fix this.
-
The “invisible snap preference” - a still present Conan Exiles gamepad bug where when inventory panes are manually changed to ordering such as by Name, removing or adding a single item to/from the inventory snaps the highlighted selection to some system-preferred next in line, often out of visibility. I believe from years of experience that it goes by “Date added” into inventory in order - meaning that the selection will jump around when removing items in the order they were put into the inventory. This causes all sorts of confusion for the user when using Name ordering.
-
You removed the hold-to-rotate triggers while using Construction Hammer. We used to be able to select a build piece/placeable, and hold L2/R2 to rotate the item around 360 degrees. Now we have to tap the trigger many times to turn it in small increments. Please add a repeating/polling mechanism back so the item keeps auto-rotating while we hold the trigger.
MY RECOMMENDED PRIORITIES:
I think you should absolutely focus on the following FIRST:
I believe items 1,4,7,9 are the most valuable right now. Fix the glitch where moving with d-pad sends the cursor to invisible quickbar purgatory. Fix the left-and-right flow of selection focus when moving across panes to ALWAYS follow my image diagram for best user expectations and intuitiveness; Fix START and STOP crafting button!
