My crafting thralls are dying in mysterious ways

Returned to game to check the new Age and found myself in an annoying predicament.

After building a small base with the necessary benches and named thralls and went to explore the new companions quest line i noticed my crafting thralls are vanishing one by one.

Build a new base
Place the necessary benches:
Garrison Armor bench
Garrison Blacksmith Bench
Large Cauldron
Alchemy Bench
Grinder
Tinker
Casting Table
Artisan Bench
Tavern, chairs, tables beds
etc
place all the necessary thralls into the world
Armorer all 3 named variation
Blacksmiths all 3 named variations
Carpenters all 3 variations
Alchemist 1
Taskmaster 2 variations
Cooks 2
Dancer 1
Barkeeper 1
Smelter 1
Fighter - 1 Dalinsia
Mount - 1 Horse

Wait for 24 hours to pass
Notice some of them die in mysterious ways

i would have posted the log picture but i canā€™t cuz reasons im a new registered user

A similar thing has been happening to me. Several named thralls have died inexplicably the last couple times Iā€™ve been on (Merrum the Accursed, Darmok the Experimenter, Erek Twice Cursed, and Dewain the Accursed). None of them had been levelled, and the log only says that they died, with no explanation how. The last two seemed to happen while I was still here. As far as I can tell, no one else was on at the time, either. I vaguely wonder if this has something to do with Jabbal Sagā€™s event, but I have no evidence of this.

My device is a Intel(R) Coreā„¢ i7-8850H CPU @ 2.60GHz 2.59 GHz, with 32 GB of RAM on a 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor. I use no mods.

Edit: With a closer look, I noticed the wooden palisades around part of my base were repeatedly getting damaged, some of which might be close enough to stools where thralls sat to eat near a barkeep. Iā€™ve removed those, but time will tell whether or not that solves the issue.

Removing the palisades has seemed to fix my problem. I consider my problem solved.

I donā€™t have palisades and I have suffered the same ā€œthey died just cuzā€ at my base. No nearby thralls, doesnā€™t say they were killed by anything, just ā€œdiedā€. I suspect its a server issue, they fall through the mesh and die from fall damage maybe?

Would really appreciate if these Thralls could be returned to me. Itā€™s one thing to lose gear, itā€™s another to lose rare thralls that youā€™ve only seen spawn once. Could really use my Siessa and Olva back.

Character is Farine on Server 1726 - looking at the forums this is happening all over. Turning off Living Settlements and compensation would be better than leaving it broken.

Apologies for this probably silly question.
But:
Do you feed them?

Iā€™ve had the same issue, no reason I can figure out the thralls repeatedly die. Seems to be most prevent with the T4 crafters, but its not limitted to them. :frowning: Really killing the game for me. Theyā€™re fed, thereā€™s beds and a good tavern nearby for them. Log just says they ā€œdied [2]ā€

A couple of them were extremely well armed and even moderately levels.

Canā€™t believe this is happening -after- the patch which specifically called out it had been fixed.

My thralls that died had the same message that Siesse and Olva do in your game. I continue to monitor to see if anyone else dies.

Maybe itā€™s not silly!

ā€¦do we need to keep food in their inventory now?

I did some tests.

Itā€™s the same message you get if your thrall dies in combat. Someone may have just gone out of their way to lure monsters into my tavern to kill them or something. Starting a closed door base policy. PVE but not immune to players killing your crafters.

Directing you guys to this thread on the PlayStation section. Itā€™s happening on all platforms and servers as I can tell. Itā€™s a bug, NOT someone trolling you. Funcom screwed it up and havenā€™t really acknowledged it.

They do seem to need food.
We already know they use foods for healing themselves after rounds of combat.
But more lately, it seems theyā€™ve been consuming their foods even when going about their daily routines. I guess this should be expected with ā€œliving settlementsā€.
Although pets are not patrolling, they are consuming their foods too.
There has been some problems recently with the Thrall Pot and weā€™ve seen it as well. Not just the thrall pot but also the pet feed bin. They were taking their respective foods from the wrong sources. (this was going on before the Age of Heroes dropped). But there was something else where the food stocks for both were being consumed way too quickly. (like overnight). This is relatively new.

Even after removing the thrall pot and feed bins, they still continue to take foods from the ice boxes (whether raw or prepared). This is when I began noticing the workers with raw meats in their inventories. (They donā€™t have to be near the ice boxes). But at least theyā€™ve been conservative in how much raw meat they take. Typically they can be found with 1 piece. Unfortunately, it was meats intended for the pets.

With all this in mind, it does make me think that they might die if they have no food to consume. If this is true, then we need to make sure they have at least a source of food (such as ice boxes which prevent food decay) and some in their inventories.

We havenā€™t discovered any dead thralls or pets, as has been noted by others here. But then again, we have been paying closer attention to them and their behaviors since the bug reports started coming out.

iā€™m on a buggy ass PVE official server where we can kill each otherā€™s thralls. iā€™ve killed 1 of my neighbors without knowing and i thought he was trolling but his logs said i did it and days later people were reporting entire settlements wiped out. then it happened to me and i live in the middle of nowhere with no enemies (crownsgrove) how the f*ck did a ā€œberserker Iā€ and ā€œstygian soldier iiā€ end up in crownsgrove. this screenshot is after the hunt event by the way, like 4 days ago

While I donā€™t know for certain, those thralls appear in purges. The most likely explanation is that someone summoned a purge near your base, and some of the purge enemies attacked and killed your followers when they wandered too close or opened an outside door, allowing purge npcs in.

I have full fridges and the thralls never touch them. Didnā€™t see any other thralls die after I prevented other players from dragging spawns in to fight them when I was offline.

Iā€™ve never heard of what youā€™re saying and none of what I have seen indicates the thralls need to eat anything - just that it will expire when held by them while Iā€™m offline.

Perhaps there is some difference between officials and private (rented) servers.
(Iā€™m guessing youā€™re talking about the officials).
Just two of us are on a private/rented server and we donā€™t have to worry about others kiting spawns to our location.
But we have definitely been noticing the thralls and pets do consume their foods (on our server anyway).
However, if you are on a private server (hosted by another player?) I donā€™t know whatā€™s going on.

Iā€™m on official PvE on PlayStation. I donā€™t use thrall pots, pet feeders, etc., and I havenā€™t been losing any food in any containers. Iā€™ve only lost a couple of thralls (1 on EL and 1 on Siptah). This is about buggy behaviors with the Living Settlements system, not feeding your followers. Whether your thralls are taking food on their own or not is a separate bug entirely. It has nothing to do with thralls randomly dying. Thatā€™s an erroneous conclusion. Nothing Iā€™ve seen to date has led me to believe they NEED to be fed or that the loss of thralls correlates to food consumptionā€”or lack thereof.

Whatever the origin of this bug, itā€™s effecting some players and servers more than others, but itā€™s NOT exclusive to one platform. Iā€™ll direct you to the topic I linked to a few posts up that already has several reports about lost followers on PlayStation servers. I suggest you check it out and follow up as necessary. The more reports we get about this behavior, the better. Funcom NEEDS to turn off Living Settlements now rather than later, yet they have yet to actually acknowledge the problem.

Problem still persisting, Official PvE 1522. I have lost 5 T4 Crafters since patch, always when I logged off, some times 2 at a time. This is very irritating and demoralizing, makes me not want to play at all.

I QUIT.

I am also having this issue. Most recently with my Fia who went poof under mysterious circumstances. Iā€™m not built in a dangerous area, there shouldnā€™t be anything that can kill them. The most dangerous thing near my base is a ram. Heā€™s definitely not killing my thralls. This is really discouraging and I wish they would fix it. :frowning:
