The most frustrating thing about this game is not seeing friends on the HUD, with a nameplate or something. While perhaps a bit meta, it actually compensates for the lack of in game voice. I can call out to a friend in the woods and they can find me, without saying "behind the rock, over there, to the east, no up a hill, not sure where you are coming from, etc.
In the “The Forest” nameplates were visible as long as you weren’t crouched (being quite) which seems like a good compromise. Without being able to see people in your vicinity it makes the game a chore for a hunting party or small group.
