New Follower Limit - Feedback thread

You don’t have to murder them before the update. There will be a grace period after the update. During that grace period, the culling logic will be off and you can choose which thralls to kill using the Break the Bonds command. Once the grace period expires, they’ll turn on the culling logic and leave it on.

You don’t need to kill any thralls you own but you’ll need to break bond with all the thralls and pets that exceed 55.
And because of the new levelling possibility for thralls and pets, you’ll very probably break bond with all your legacy thrall in the days / weeks following the patch implementing this levelling.
That’s why I don’t understand why all the whinning about the thrall’s cap. Legacy thralls won’t matters any more as soon as the thralls and pets levelling system goes live. That’ll happen next month.
So you better use the few weeks left before the patch to hunt, capture and tame enough thralls to level and to not find yourself defenseless when the cap’ll be enforced.

Reasons for “whining”, recapped:

  1. Lack of decorative thralls means some PVE people will have builds that will suddenly have to be depopulated.
  2. Some people have concerns about offline purges. Yes, they do happen, I’ve seen one happen this weekend. No, new thralls won’t necessarily be able to cover all the approaches in a multi-pronged wave.
  3. Cap formula adds a strong disincentive to joining a clan (or having an already established clan).
  4. No way to see how many thralls you have and where they are means it’s easier to overlook glitched thralls or thralls from decayed clanmates’ bases.
  5. Completely random nature of culling logic means that if you ever exceed the cap for any reason (e.g. someone left your clan while you were offline), the game will play Russian Roulette. Combined with the new leveling system, it means you might keep your camel while your lvl 20 über-archer dies.
  6. Extremely rare thralls will become useless because they’re not retroactively included in the leveling system. Either you have to kill them off and lose them forever, or you have to grant them one of the precious few slots in your follower cap.

If anyone can remember something I missed, let me know.

Also, if anyone wants to actually discuss these things, as opposed to calling me names or just dismissing it without offering any arguments, I’ll be happy to hear your arguments

10 man clan = 100 thralls cap = inviting fake account to clan just to have 100 thralls

Yeah, I know. People like me are actually lucky: I’ve got 8 people in my clan right now, but only 2 of us are actually active. Others have either quit the game or gone to a private server. I wonder what that says about the state of the game

Yes i going to find 8 new friends too haha

so i have read through every post. 90% negative for this to happen. what are you gonna do about it funcom? i mean the game is for your clients is it not?

Well there is definitely a selection bias here and Funcom claims we are still the minority.

So they may not listen and go ahead with the cap and culling as planned and we can either suck it up or quit. If they don’t increase the cap, I am planning on the latter.

People who care about this strongly enough to spend a lot of time engaging in the forums are definitely minority. That doesn’t really give a good picture of who will adapt, who will go to private servers and who will quit.

As for Funcom’s strategy, I’m pretty sure it’s not a coincidence that the new patch will come out simultaneously with a new DLC and a free Steam weekend.

Not true

Thalls can, and have, fallen through the world and stayed there on server reset, never to return.
And it’s not because l33t hackers placed them down there for giggles.

You’ve seriously never experienced this? Really?
You’ve either been very lucky or haven’t been playing very long.

Yes tell mr janos a.k.a aquaman who are now under the map in the water by the fishes. The most ironic part is that i dressed him like aquaman to let him guard at the beach but he glithed under the map when i placed him, now he is really aquaman.

Keep in mind, Conan Exiles is a “Buy to Play” game. There is no subscription to play it. So once you buy it, Funcom has no incentive to keep you playing it.

  1. If you bought the game, but stop playing it, Funcom made all of their money off you. Even better, you’re no longer using their server resources.

  2. The way to make more money is to get you to buy the game, again. This could mean banning you. But it also means incentivizing you to have multiple accounts for a particular reward. Say, buying 9 extra accounts so you could raise your thrall limit from 55 to 100…

I’m not saying it is right. I’m just saying it is Funcom.

I would agree that it is not a coincidence, but I also do not think they planned those as a cushion to soften the blow.

I think the DLC was always planned as a simultaneous release to accompany mounts and the free Steam Weekend was probably because the mounts release is the opportune time to recruit new players. Neither has anything to do with the culling.

While they have stated that they knew the culling would be controversial, and I believe they did, I do not believe they foresaw it being this controversial. I think that, once again, Funcom was caught off guard at how out of touch they were with how players actually play their game and didn’t expect the culling to hurt much more than the overt thrall spammers. However, the mounts update likely requires the culling and too many resources have already been invested to pull back now.

I’m predicting they will attempt a compromise that won’t actually solve anything, then a month or two after the update, start realizing that they caused more problems than they solved and attempt to apply some bandages. After another month or two of bandages making things worse, they will start ripping things apart, just like with the hunger update. Ultimately, the followers will still be worse than they had been, their fan base will be constantly complaining, and nobody will be happy.

The Mounts Update being the update that drove many veteran players off was certainly an unexpected twist of fate.

New players with no expectations will replace the veterans who left, and though the game will keep going, it will retain a scar that will never heal until the day comes that it finally goes offline.

Yep, that prediction sounds spot on. Unfortunately.

On the bright side, the day it finally goes offline is still a while away

Well will never truely go offline as people will be able to use there own modded private servers and last without the interference from funcom anymore

  1. People develop emotional attachments to certain Thralls and/or Pets. Like the extremely rare Thralls, not retroactively including in them in the leveling system will mean that you either have to get rid of these beloved Thralls/Pets, or give up one of the limited follower slots you have.

But there is DLC.
If I keep playing it, then chances are when they release a new DLC, I’ll buy it. If I stop playing it, then I won’t buy the next/latest DLC.

Technically, you’re right. If I payed for the game, but then stop playing the game, then Funcom has made all the money they can possibly make off of me.
But, if I stick around and they continue to release DLC, then as I said I’ll probably buy it, meaning that I will be a continuing source of income for Funcom.

It’s like me and Fortnite/Epic Games. I use to play at least one round/game a day. This means I’d also check the store daily and if there were any skins I really liked, I’d buy them. But since they started adding Bot into the games, I’ve lost interest in playing and haven’t actually played in over a week. I was actually going to jump on last weekend, but decided that I’d rather just play Conan. So I haven’t been in the store, I haven’t bought anything from them and it looks like that may continue to be the case for the foreseeable future. So it could be that Epic Games has now reached the point where they have made all the money they are going to make off of me. But had they not added Bots, or even given the option not to play games with Bots, then I would probably still be playing daily and still be spending my hard earned cash on V-Bucks.

I doubt this will work without an update of the mod. So this is not a day 1 solution depending on the mod authors time and/or the availability of the devkit.

the fact that one part of the exploit is currently not available makes it not valid to re-implement the other part only to remove it before the gods are reactivated. thats wasted time

The exploit requires 2 parts… Activating one wont make the exploit available.

Isn’t “knockoutable” just a toggle?? Shouldn’t take that long to activate… Whether it’s a waste of time to activate it, so people can keep/upgrade the thralls they want… I don’t think so…
