Password keeps falling off my private server?

i have my own gportal server where i play mostly by myself or sometimes with a few friends just building or doing pve. i have noticed that i have to keep setting my server password multiple times as it keeps falling off and my server becomes public.

this password issue has been happening for months, but has never resulted in anyone actually getting in my server and looking to cause trouble. until today. luckily i keep pvp and building damage turned off because my friends and i dont pvp. i did still however find someones forward base outside my castle with a bunch of stuff they stole from me inside.

even though pvp and building damage is disabled, it was obvious that their intention was to gear up and destroy. thats all fair game on a public pvp server but this server is not public (or shouldnt be public atleast) and i dont want these cretin griefers coming in here.

i turned pvp back on for a few minutes and bombed his base into oblivion. hes got another one somewhere though, his character wasnt logged off inside. building decay is disabled too so eventually i will find him but i dont have time to comb the entire map for this guy he can be anywhere.

so is this bug on gportals end? is there a solution to this? am i blind and theres something im missing thats not confirming and saving my password?

any info will help, thanks

Short answer: always check with host company in case you have made a mistake with the server settings.

Long Answer: It is taken as given that you are talking about the Server access password and not the Server Admin(istrator) password. That is the password a player is prompted for when they click on a server in the server listings.

If you have set a private server password (in the ENGINE.INI files) and it somehow resets or disappears, and you are the only person who has access to, and knows the password to the server, then your first step is to check with the hosting company (gportal in your case) and to verify you set the server access password correctly.

If you have, you may need to change the password in case someone else has access to the server settings that could have removed the password.

This person you mention. Are they meant to be able to access your server, as in you gave them the password to access the server? If you did not, it would be strange for them to be able to get in without the password.

Even with PvP switched off, unlocked chests and craftstations can be taken from by anyone. If PvP is switched off and the setting preventing damage to player structures is on, no-one can damage a base even with trebuchet, etc. A player certainly can damage thralls though (kiting NPCs to attack thralls, etc), just not built structures.

Sounds like PvE-C to me. On pure PvE servers, people cannot loot in the craftstations, chests, and others’ bodies. Question: on private servers, can you change your server settings from PvP to PvE-C to PvE and so on… without wiping the map? If so, maybe Einarr could change his settings so the random person would not be able to access to the craftstations, chests and bodies which do not belong to them? At least, until that password issue is resolved.

On a DAWN server, you have to set the serveradministrationmode to “expert” or to FTP, else the .ini files get reset with every restart. I guess there is something similar with G-Portal servers?

The key thing for @Einarr will be getting that pasword stuff sorted, and the first stop’s at the service provider. After that Einarr can take steps on the server.

This is actually quite common for gportal… (part of the :poop: features if you will  )

Usually what causes this is that there is a SECOND ServerPassword entry in one of the config files that is blank… so when the server starts up it will use one or the other, depending on which one gets processed last.

So, simply go over all of your relevant config files (ServerSettings.ini, Game.ini, Engine.ini) and check each of them for a second ServerPassword line that doesn’t have a value set and just delete that and save the file.

P.S. While at it, you might also want to go and set CampsIgnoreLandclaim=True cuz gportal by default has it incorrectly set to False… so you’ll be back soon with complaints that suddenly half the NPCs on the map aren’t spawning

P.P.S. Think twice before extending your gportal rental… my advice would be to move away from them as soon as you’re able

is there a way to bring my server to a different provider? i really dont want to start over again. ive built way too many things that took too long, and spent far too much time leveling a gigantic army of thralls

yea ofc, if you’re playing on Exiled Lands then your game database is going to be ConanSandbox\Saved\game.db on the server itself.
You can either use the file manager or FTP to download that and upload it to the same file path on the new server.
