I think some people were under the impression the new patron chests are replacing them. It’s what it seemed like anyway, so I asked.
The way distillate shifters works is that first you get the distillate shifter. The blue ones I saw would then transform the next 2 distillates into the desired type. You right click to use the shifter, and you get a buff showing how many distillates will be shifted, and into what. You can use another shifter to add 2 to the stack count, and the last type you used will determine what the stack is.
So if you used a weapon shifter first, you’d get 2 stacks of weapon dist. shifting. If you then used a talisman shifter, you’ll have 4 stacks of tali dist shifting. If you then used a glyph shifter, it’ll add 2 and shift, so 6 stacks of glyph shifters and so on.
The next chest you open will then have any non-matching distills shifted, up to your max number of stacks. If the chest contains distills of the type you are shifting to, they aren’t effected and won’t consume stacks.
You don’t have to stack them though, you could use a tali shifter, get 2 extra tali dists, then use a glyph shifter and get 2 extra glyph dists from the next chest(s), and then if you used a signet shifter, you’d get 2 signet dists. Or you could use them all before you open any chests and get 6 signet dists (assuming signet was the last one you used).
Doesn’t seem worth it to me then, I don’t run much content that only gives one type of distillate (unless they’re changing rewards) - it’s either glyph+weapon+tali from dungeons/faction missions, or signet+glyph+weapon/tali from lairs/OD, and if I use a tali shifter then it converts the signet/glyph ones as well as the weapon ones that I don’t want.
I haven’t seen the actual numbers but live lairs would be a pessimal case for this, if you use a signet shifter then it gets consumed by the tiny 700-1200 weapon/glyph rewards, if you use any other type then it gets consumed by all the signet rewards.
The main thing it’d be good for is diversifying as someone who only runs one kind of content, eg. I run a lot of scenario/faction missions and have way too many glyphs and never get signets, so once I’m done my glyphs I could start running signet shifters constantly.
They are. OD will no longer natively drop signet distillates unless it’s been changed since the last open beta.
I’m glad we get the Shifters. You can also buy with aurum, and I reeeeeaally need signet distillates.
No worries then =). Its just the old f2p dungeon Keys vs patron dungeon Keys that it replace, since normal dungeon chests are now free to open for everyone. The new patron chests/Keys is instead of the extra Keys patrons used to get.
Faction missions are 4x weapon/tali, 1x glyph now, it appears. (unless my 4th tali one was a bonus of some sort) I was getting 3x glyph, 1x weapon/tali at the same elite level before the patch.
