Peculiar Box Drop Rates

Without going into details of the mission, the way it is done, getting to the end and NOT getting one of the museum items would also cause a lot of frustration. I think that might be why they placed the RNG on getting the mission, rather than the item, probably assuming it isn’t nessecarily a run people wanna do often.

Unfortunately it means people get locked out of the new content, which certainly isn’t optimal either. One devil or the other.

I’d counter that argument with the Sentient Cog being an RNG drop from HR6. I don’t think anyone loves running that one over and over again. Also, your assumption is based on them knowing beforehand that a large amount of people either wouldn’t be able to complete the mission, or wouldn’t want to redo it. If resources are so limited and content updates are so sparse, why would they waste time on something designed to only be run once or twice?

As the saying goes, “better the devil you know than the devil you don’t.” Some people wouldn’t have liked the drops to be RNG based, but that is how nearly every other museum item works. I really doubt that there would have been much backlash about that aspect. The biggest problem would then be the forced scaling, which again, is different than any other scaled content. If people could choose the level like the faction missions, and the mission could be run with the normal cooldown timer, then I honestly don’t think the museum items being an RNG drop would be much of an issue.

The devs only get credit for trying something new if the something new is good or they’re willing to admit when it’s bad.

Ok, quick update. I finally got the box to drop, so I guess it was just really bad RNG after all. I still maintain that it’s a bad setup.

For those who are curious I got the box from a blue chest in an E9 dungeon. For the past few days I’ve been speedrunning E1 dungeons farming blue chests. So, maybe there is some sort of bad luck counter on the chests that increases the odds with each one. Or maybe all that E1 running was a complete waste of time. Who knows?

Congratulations!

i play every day 8+ Main and 8+ Side Missions and Zero Boxes til today…
(3x OD, 3x E9, Agent missi, DA, Sidemision in Kaidan)
I hate this Random drop …

Looks like yesterday was terrible RNG spike because I got my first box too. I refuse to farm missions for this, and don’t usually do more than half of dailies that is enough to have points for DA runs, plus weekly 15-20 regionals, and blue regional’s chest is what made it after all.

I am really happy for you mate, even if I have to admit that, since I was in group with you, right when you dropped the box I hated you a little bit, but I hated you with friendly love

It came to my mind that I have seen many times boxes dropping from dungeons blue boxes, I have also seen boxes drop for someone who already had one ( a common friend of us posted in group chat the message and had to stand my hatred for a while as he “stole and wasted” my box  ), but I have never seen 2 boxes drop for 2 group members from the same blue chest.
This means that there are 2 RNG check to pass, first each blue box has a % of dropping a box (not a very bad one from my experience), then you have a 20% chanche of getting that box shared with other group mates. That does not sound good.

I doubt funcom established a double check…Not impossible…sure…but normally funcom tries to keep code simple. So as few values to remember as possible and as few as possible rng checks.

They also went away from the whole idea of having to fight with your group for the loot, when they relaunched into SWL. I’d find it curious if they added something like that in again, and with no choice in the matter. With a low enough chance, it becomes very rare for several of five people, to get the drop at once.

@Feuerblume Welcome to the forums. It’s just too bad that it’s an annoying game mechanic that brought you here. Yep, the random drop is stupid, but there’s nothing that can be done about it except grind some more. Good luck, and hopefully you don’t have to wait much longer.

@Jess It does seem a bit strange that so many unlucky people got their first box in the past couple days. Maybe Funcom stealth patched the RNG, or maybe there really is a mercy counter and a lot of people just reached the point where the box absolutely had to drop. Either way, congrats on your first box. I hope you were able to use it and beat the mission. Also, I don’t know if anyone else had confirmed that it drops from regionals, so that’s good to know.

@paololov Maybe your good luck buff only affects other group members. If so, thanks for the box. And don’t worry, I would have been annoyed if you were the one to get the drop yesterday. It is interesting to speculate about two boxes dropping from the same chest. I think it could theoretically happen, but the rates are so low, it’s very unlikely. For instance how often have you seen two agents drop from the same regional or dungeon chest? I think everyone triggers a separate RNG table each time they open a chest, so the box would drop for a player not the group.

Ok so I finally dropped a box as you know since I was screaming of joy in chat
For who may be interested it was out of a dungeon blue box.

And right when I stopped hating you, you dropped yet another one, proving that its really only bad and weird RNG and also fully deserving my hate again

Good, good. Let the hate flow through you. If it makes you feel any better, I only got a second Depleted Energy Cell, so that part of my luck is still bad.

So, like paololov mentioned, the first box took a month and a half for me and the second one took 3 days. Both from blue chests in dungeons. This RNG system is still stupid.

I got my first box on May 11th. My second box dropped the next day before I had a chance to clear the mission so it was wasted. And of course, now that I cleared it I won’t see another drop for 3 months.

I think I’m up to 0 from a thousand bags now although it’s kinda unclear if I should count all bags or only tali/weapon. I started queuing dungeons but only about 3 actual completions (no patience here, if ‘all 3 roles e6+’ doesn’t work before I hit 50ap/sp, I log off)

@darxide Well, that sucks. At least you were able to clear it eventually. The stupid RNG drop is only the start of the problem for a lot of people. They seriously screwed up each stage of this new mission. Now that’s an achievement FUncom can be proud of.

@Onevia What I’ve been doing is soloing E1 dungeons. No queues to worry about and I can run the dungeons at my own pace. I’m still unsure about the drop rates from bags, but I know for a fact that the box can drop from a blue chest for me.

Had 7 now, i don’t do missions at all - all mine came from dungeons and i only do what keys i have in a day.
not bothered about the museum so i wish i could give it away to someone.
Museum is not needed for anything at all except… well i dunno. Nothing.
Go figure.

Hey, welcome back from exile! Try to stay out of trouble this time around.

The museum is needed as a time sink, just like everything else in the game. I’ve come to the conclusion that trying to get a box to drop from mission bags is a waste of time. Dungeons seem to have better drop rates. And, you can give away the museum items if you wanted, though that’s probably a lot of MoF if you felt like selling them instead.

Most museum items go for 20, 50 - 100 - 200 mofs if you are lucky. I don’t do missions or farm mobs.
it was the peculiar box i wish to give to some poor sap who can’t get it coz funcom thinks the best way to add new content is to lock it behind RNG - well look what happens there? Some don’t get the drop at all. And that is sad, because they end up disheartened and tired on top of their tiredness of the game as it is already.

Plus, after you get the blade you most likely don’t need anything else after it.
I have no interest in museum and it is not needed for content nor to play the game. Just like agents.
they are non issues.
Its not what i sink my time into.
Playing with friends is.
Insisting it’s just a joke and will be rectified in an upcoming patch lol Jokes on them more like :v:

I caused no trouble - i only spoke the truth.
We do want the missing content back.
Funcoms RNG is like being given dead rats for your lunch under a silver plated cloche.

funniest thing is, playing on a different name and people act completely different - even though you are the same person who says the same things…
names have a funny way of shaping ones perception.

Good luck with the box all.

But make enough noise and i’m sure they will eventually do something - if they indeed can.

I am under the impression that the difficulty of the fight does not scale linearly so at lower IPs it may be quite easier to clear it.

I know of many friends that cleared it with builds that could be considered “sub par” and/or that did not bother changing/optimizing their build at all. They were all not even close to maxed IP.
At the same time all the close to max IP ppl I know struggled quite a bit to win that fight (at least at first try and without checkiing much the online guides). Even well known good players came out quite stressed from it and it took them quite a few tries .

I remember one friend who on a first quick try claimed he could bring him down to like 10-20% HP before he died. He was under 1,6k IP at that time. He tried again later when he had like 50 IP more and could not bring him down more then 40% using the same build. He told me that adds HP almost doubled from his previous fight.

I know it is all very anecdotal but the general feeling is that at the higher IP levels this fight difficulty ramps up quite a bit.

Are there otpimal builds for this fight ? Of course there are some that work better then others. High, burst damage is very usefull as you need to kite him having some dps downtine and also to kill adds ASAP. So we all know which weapons have the highest burst dps ingame
But even if you have those weapons leveled you can’t pretend to play them as well as you play your everiday build. It takes some time before muscular memory kicks in and in a such a frantic fight that makes a huge difference.

Okay so it seems everyone who posts here has gotten a peculiar box so I am going to try posting to see if it improves the odds. I have opened over 5,000 bags, scenario chests, dungeon chests, regional chests, and lair chests since this came out and have seen nothing. So hopefully, the GMs read this thread occasionally and I can get a peculiar box also.
