Persistent-world multiplayer survival games

Not mention… most of CE speeds bumps are small hicups cause some of use have waaaaaaay to much free time playing it.

My Brother who has maybe 70-100 hours. Dies in lv60 armor to Darfari… he is just not familer with game systems since he plays it hour or 2 at a time during a week.

he Finds the game hard and frustrating, I gave him a closet full of lv40,50,60 armors to make outfit of and some lv60 weapons.
I have yet to really get him past Savanna in North. I’m 100% sure a wolf will make him quit if not a Sabercat.

OK so there’s another one, but it’s currently being sued for copying content from another dev, so this is not a recommendation.

The game is pretty tough, with persistent world building and punitive decay systems. They get a lot of things really right about horse and human training, leveling, upkeep. Also, if you’re not leveled to use a particular weapon or tool, it works less productively and loses durability very quickly. This is a neat, and punishing system I wish we could have implemented – along with sloooower leveling. It’s arduous. I very much like the game but can’t ethically play it until the lawsuit progresses. Myth of Empires.

It’s still there for noobs who aren’t being told what to do.

It’s pretty difficult to maintain survival as a deadly element, in a game that teaches you how to be a survivalist.

Both are definitely “survival” games.

Newcomers who are not familiar with Conan and aren’t having others lead them around by the nose do die a lot. Maybe not thousands but hundreds or certainly scores of times before they become a “survivalist” within the context of the mechanics.

This. Obviously, once you learn to survive (or become a “survivalist”) it’s no longer the central issue of gameplay and we move on to different types of challenges. Then once those are conquered there are a few other avenues to venture down: Building and collecting in either PvE or PvP styles. Achieving goals you set for yourself, getting into the lore, fashion, etc. I don’t think anyone would actually want to stay on the “survival” rails for much longer than Conan has us doing so. It’s just a shame that there’s so much help out there. You’re basically told how to beat the game before you even install it. :frowning:

Install it and give it a try… I have a about a hundred hours in the game… it’s not bad - it’s definitely influenced by previous Ultima designs - so if you played on an Apple ][ it’ll put a smile on your face from time to time. To get the controls more like Conan you have to go to the settings and check “Hold Cursor Toggle”, set a hot key for “Toggle Cursor” and turn off “Auto Attack” as soon as you’re comfortable doing so. It’s a tiny dev group but updates are weekly and biweekly. I think it’s better than Valhymen was 2 years back. It’ll prolly be awesome for players who like building whole villages - even now really… I guess in another 2 or 3 years it will be an excellent title! It’s Richard after all…

I started the game single player. I didn’t watch any YouTube video and I learned the usage of wiki when I arrived in the forum. In the forum I came one year after I started the game. YouTube videos started at least 1 month after I started the game and ofcurce I had finally mastered the survival point. I am using YouTube videos as sleeping pills, I hardly see a full episode :rofl::rofl:. Yet I remember that this game had more survival character than today. It didn’t had all the dungeons and I am not sure when I started if it had any. I remember I had to swap armors all the time, bleeding and poisoning was more lethal and lava was instant death for you and your followers. I was walking with fear everywhere. Skeletons of all kinds were not staggered and some world bosses were really difficult even if you had a thrall. Now I can surely play the game way differently than then, yet I believe that everything is easier today compare to the old days, not only because I know the game, but because it was. I won’t say what’s good and what’s bad, or better and worst.

Yeah, I have no reference from those times as I’ve only been playing for about a year and a half. I guess they have tuned officials to be welcoming to the largest audience - and not a lot of “people” like difficult challenges. The situation you’re describing seems to me to be a product of folks accepting official server settings as canon though. They of course don’t have to however. If you are accepting “officials” as “the way you like it” that just means that in reality, you’re one of the people who don’t actually like difficult challenges. FC had enough foresight in enough areas that if that’s not you, you can definitely tune things more to your liking. The mod scene takes that to extremes if the vanilla extremes weren’t enough already…

Wow shroud of the avatar looks a lot better than it did when I was testing it. I’m very skeptical that those videos are just lipstick on a pig though. I’ll have to dig up my old account for a look.

Yeah, in SOTA you can experience all those scenes in gameplay but most of the gameplay is not that. Those are definitely selective and choice clips. But there’s a lot I don’t know too, so… But one has to keep in mind that as the player you are also the cameraman. If you suck at virtual camera operation then you won’t be experiencing it quite like that. OTOH, there’s enough camera controls in SOTA that you can duplicate 95% of those scenes in gameplay. Another game like that is ESO. Camera zooming and positioning along with the ability turn on or off certain HUD and character elements can make a game so much more (or less) cinematic and immersive.

Dragons look neat, I got Lotro and Monster Hunter Sunbreak.

Though of getting into another mmo of older style… not really there… but is. I’d love to go back and play Lineage I.

I have flash backs of some of old mmo mechanics that feel so outdated.

It depends on what you like I think

  • Rust is pretty good in PvP
  • Ark is pretty good at tames
  • Atlas is pretty good at adventure
  • And Conan is pretty good or okay at everything except PvP and taming

There a few other games on my radar I haven’t tried out yet:

  • Osiris: New Dawn
  • Last Oasis
  • Empyrion - Galactic Survival

He’s not so bad when you’re geared up and leveled. He dies in about 5 hits and if properly configured you can survive 8 or 10 hits from him. If he hits you more than once tho it really just means you need to work on your moves. He uses identical tactics to normal wolves so you can practice on them 1st if you need.

Worse than him is the 3-skull White Tiger! His moves are so unpredictable and he hits harder than that evil wolf. The white tiger literally teleports and turns directions randomly - and I think his HP is like 2 or 3 times that of that wolfy’s.

Yes… True… Yet…
We use to go to the north with the unbelievable armor of…
Encumbrance . And it was “flawless” so it was super duper :rofl::rofl: and we couldn’t dodge with heavy armor… Still if we needed fur we were going north through basin passage, so we were walking really frightened because this beast was the reason we lost a lot of inventories . Again… The game now is way easier, trust me.

Yeah, I believe it. I use youtube too. I guess we’re talking about the current game tho and not how things were 2 to 4 years ago?
