Please release usage stats

G’morning.

It would be very interesting to see some usage stats relating to the game. in particular:

{ no. players played, no. hours played } (vanilla)
{ no. players played, no. hours played } (modded)

You could also add:

{ no. players played, no. hours played } (pvp)
{ no. players played, no. hours played } (pve/pvec)

On a weekly and/or monthly basis.

Thanks

That is proprietary information that they do not wish for their contemporaries to have. It is also infomation players wouldn’t know how to use properly. Even if they may think they do. (They don’t)

As like console vs PC stats, what would releasing this information do and would it be a net positive or negative? Every scenario I run as a thought experiment keeps coming out negative.

Agreed. Players would use such information to supplement their own bias and ignore the context. Like hours played for PVP are going to vastly differ in one way or another depending on the context. If you’re trying to build up your resources, you’re gonna have more time than PVE. But when you’re more established, you’re going to be doing the minimum as to not burn out during those times you need to be on that are high intensity. That’s just the nature of PVP in general in any game.

Like a great example of misusing stats is what players did with Server FPS. You had some that mistook that for video framerate. And then you had some that thought it was something that could tell them if they overbuilt. Where a single player would need to build something in the range of 250,000-500,000 building pieces to really see a dent in that value, assuming they are on a generally populated server (empty servers would need to double or triple that amount). And anyone who thinks they saw something here, you’re seeing a placebo effect in conjunction with a hiccup. That information is only useful to server admins/owners who are making setting changes or using mods that have some extra load per character logged in.

amazing what users can dream up.

the single largest factor in server performance would be the single threaded design of the server.

as for player stats, there is no reason to withhold such information on a 6 year old game.

what it would do is help the community see where the user base is focused.

No - this opens a can of worms that people just arent equipped nor have the knowledge to handle.

I can share some- i login to 20 servers a day 340 days a year- All PVE

Now how does this help other players?

It doesnt.

then there should be no issue offering up the data.

of course, i’d drop any player session from the stats that was under a certain minimum amount of time or idle for too long… that’s just proper data cleansing.

Your only going to get detailed info from the players if they choose to share it and some do actually.

Like myself- you can determine i really only play on about 2-4 servers a day based on leveling thralls for example at 2 hours a pop.

Some may post about building time even with creative mode thats a 2- 4 hours session or even longer.

You can check out twitch and see also how long people are RPing for-

That info is available for free without Funcoms intervention.

You know what is better? When players don’t worry about what others are doing and simply do what they like to do.

Seeing what others do, and adjusting your play around that is the worst thing an individual can do to themselves. This right here is the exact reason they should never release the numbers. Players are their own worst enemies.

the data is known to steam and funcom. those would be the only sources to consider.

you’re a user thinking like a user.

developers have other concerns.

Are you a developer?

If so what are you doing asking on the USER forums?

i’m a dev but not with funcom.

So ask FunCom directly
Unless Taemien is correct and you are asking for Proprietary information?

Either way this is a sleezy way of going about this.

I’m a former 3d artiest illustrator, retired. and even I know this is not proper protocol.

protocol? there is no protocol for that type of info.

and i have no connections within funcom. if you do, have them respond.

of course, i’d bet you think that’s ‘sleazy’ as well

FunComs contact information is readily available on line.

And there absolutely is a protocol and proper channels of communication.

A user forum ain’t it.

Release your own usage stats. Show them yours before asking them to show theirs.

the funcom conan exile’s contact page points to a help page and the forums.

of course, according to you, users do not communicate with the company thru their forums. which i guess leaves me with the general mailing address and a phone number… unless you’re saying i should choose some other social media mechanism to communicate instead of their own forums.

ok.

{ 1, 2000 } (vanilla)
{ 1, 5500 } (modded)
{ 1, 1500 } (pvp)
{ 1, 6000 } (pve)

now, back to the question…

Those are awfully rounded numbers. And what project?
