With the upcoming Enhanced update, Funcom has a strong opportunity to evolve the Funcom ID system into a more robust, player-facing account management solution. Currently, Funcom ID operates largely in the background and is not well understood by the player base. Expanding its functionality could significantly improve user experience, particularly during the Legacy → Enhanced transition.
Current Context
At present, several key systems are already tied to Funcom ID:
-
Bazaar and Battle Pass purchases
-
Twitch Drops
-
Character transfers
Despite this, players have no direct way to view, manage, or control their Funcom ID associations.
Proposal
Introduce a dedicated account management interface (preferably web-based) that allows players to manage their Funcom ID connections across platforms.
Core Features (Phase 1 - Essential)
-
Link and unlink platform accounts (Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation, etc.) to a Funcom ID
-
View active account associations
-
Select or confirm the primary Funcom ID associated with each platform
Expected Benefits
-
Smoother Transition (Legacy → Enhanced)
-
Reduces friction for players migrating between platforms
-
Provides clarity and control over account linkage
-
-
Cross-Platform Continuity
-
Enables players to carry over purchases and characters between platforms where applicable
-
Aligns Funcom with industry standards for account ecosystems
-
-
Player Trust and Transparency
-
Removes ambiguity around how Funcom ID functions
-
Empowers players with direct control over their data
-
Limitations
-
Traditional DLCs not tied to Funcom ID would remain unaffected
-
Additional backend validation may be required to prevent abuse or unintended transfers
Future Opportunities (Phase 2 - Expansion)
-
Cross-game rewards within Funcom’s ecosystem (e.g., unlockables shared between titles)
-
Unified player profiles and progression systems
-
Enhanced integration with live services and events
Conclusion
This proposal does not introduce a new paradigm but rather aligns Funcom ID with established industry practices. Given the scale and visibility of the Enhanced update, this is a strategic moment to implement such improvements.
Even a minimal first iteration would provide immediate value to players and reduce friction during this transition period.
