PS4 Performance and technical issues - Feedback thread

All kinds; if the torch is highlighted in any manner, it occurs.

  • If the torch is in the radial menu, and I highlight it, the game freezes.
  • If the torch is in my inventory and it gets highlighted for any reason (I move the cursor onto it, or inventory shifts causing the torch to move onto the cursor) the game freezes.

It used to be a pretty consistent brief freeze (1-2 seconds), but now it seems the longer I play without highlighting the torch, the longer the freeze is when it happens. The longest freeze Iā€™ve encountered is around 5-6 seconds.

So far this is only with Torch and Improvised Torch This does not seem to be true for the Glowing Stick which does not cause a freeze.

By freeze, I mean all animation stops and the controls are unresponsive; time does not advance during the freeze.

EDIT: Further testing has shown that if I move the crosshair pointer over a container (chest, crate, et cetera) that contains a torch, the same freeze will occur, whether or not the torch is displayed in the list of contents. Additionally, the freeze will occur again when the container is opened and the curser is moved onto it, as above.

Before this patch, my pve base would render in after about a minuteā€¦ Now its around 3 minutesā€¦

I just started playing this past week. And the render speed for me is atrocious. Sound effects dont come through or are delayed for 30 seconds or more. If I go to mine a tree or a stone itll vanish after the first hit. And I have to stand there and wait for nearly a minute for it to re-render. Sometimes the map in front of me stops rendering and I fall through. Players and NPCā€™s are invisible upon first contact, and sometimes never render. Sometimes the map De-renders and re-renders ehile Iā€™m standing still. And other things of that sort l. I play on a pve and a solo/co-op server and the issues are the same on both.

I was told this issue might be because I have a PS4 Pro, and that theres an issue with them game running on Proā€™s. I run games like ark and fallout 76 on high settings and never have any problems. And I have highspeed internet aswell. This is the only game I have that I have these issues with. Is there any kind of fix for this?

It seems to be the game on the pro. The hotfix was supposed to make it better. I think it actually might have made it worse. Falling through map, invisible NPCā€™s, disappearing resources and structures all seem worse.

I have PS4 original, after 1.39, continuing crashes to main menu, stuttering, lag, on offline. Worse in co-operative. Still lose everything on death, no indication on map of death location. Etcā€¦ blah blah blah.

Apparently using an ssd fixes it. I brought an external none ssd and itā€™s better but itā€™s ridiculous to have to buy an ssd for a game to run smooth. Their patch didnā€™t fix anything either.

Quick update: our team is still investigating new measures to improve performance on Pro systems as well as monitoring the most frequent crashes.
If possible, for those reporting PS4Pro issues, could you attach a video showcasing the performance issues youā€™re reporting?
Also, as always, if you experience a crash please send the report through the PS dashboard once prompted so our team can access it.

I donā€™t have a PS4Pro. It is a fairly new PS4 1TB. I have played Conan Exiles on it since December 2018 when I bought the game. Game play has been fine and I play pretty much every day. I have had issues three times, the first when Sony updated their software and I could not access the game until you patched it, the second was over Easter with the free access when virtually every server was full and near impossible to access. Prior to that I was almost the only player in the ā€˜northā€™. By the end of the weekend there were new bases everywhere in the north. I persevered knowing that after Easter the rush would die down and the server activity would return to normal and it did. Since your last patch 1.39 (to fix PS4Pro issues) I have been unable to play the game. I have the following problems on Official PvE EU servers 3181 and 3028:

  1. Very Slow to load.
  2. Kicks me out citing no connection to server
  3. If it loads there is extreme lagging during which I am unable to do anything
  4. Building sometimes fails to render leaving me floating in water which is normally under my main building (luckily this has the side effect of allowing me to drink otherwise I would be dead by now).

I had none of these issues prior to patch 1.39 and again I do not have a PS4Pro. I have tested a couple of other games I own and I have no online issues.

Over to you guys to hopefully unpatch that last patch.

After the patch my PS4 Pro cant launch offline games. The game loads to full bar and then just freezes and I cant enter the game ever. Online game still works 50-50, but gets super laggy after about 2H of play. Its almost as if there is somekind of memory leak.

On my private sever I need to boot the server few times every day to keep it smooth. Booting works wonders, again I suspect memory leak. But having to boot twice a day is not beneficial to anyone

I also think the problem is related to memory limitations and HDD bandwidth wich explaines why the biggest improvement was the external USB3.1 SSD. The game doesā€™t not benefit from boost mode in the slightest wich it should if the stuttering would be a result of CPU/GPU overload.

That leads to the question:. Does Conan Exiles have a PS4 Pro enhancement or does it run in PS4 mode on the pro?
If so its not the first game to run worse on the Pro than on the base hardware. There have been other games that noticably suffered stuttering on the pro. Only a PS4 Pro patch fixed this. Even though the pro should be fully compatible downwards it still has a different architecture. Its has a different GPU from a different manufactor as i recall.

  • I donā€™t think there are a large number of bases, and nothing appears to be overly complex
  • I do believe a large number of thralls, but particularly trained animals, exacerbate the issues

I have been noticing more combat lag, enemies skipping around or are frozen in place for a few seconds. Players are getting damaged when the enemy is visually far away or frozen in place visually.

Other occasions enemy npcs are not rendering in and we are getting attacked by ā€œghostsā€ and floating weapons.

Sound is also lagging a bit, mostly in combat.

As an admin, I like to create content and spawn in enemy npcs, when I do this, the players are reporting spikes in the lag. Lag seems persistent, it is just a matter of degree.

trained animals following players seems to exacerbate the lag and combat issues.

Iā€™m on a PS4 Pro, others are on regular PS4 systems.

20 person private server. Busy times are usually 5-7 players on at once. Occasionally weā€™ve had 9-12 on at once.

Most structures are small. There are only two, arguably complex builds.

Server 3831 crashed after booting everyone out the server yesterday. I was just building when the server lagged hard and we couldnā€™t interact with anhthing. Can you please reset the server?

After the pro patch, my game has been laggy as hell and not only online, but single player aswell.

I started a new game on single player and after 15min or so, the game begun to stutter, lag and rubberband really badly.

No other players and no buildings, yet the game lags and stutters all the time.

So the problem isnt the mega structures of other players, full servers or bad connections. The offline mode lags just as bad as it lags online in full servers full of megastructures.

So either the offline mode isnt really offline, but an private online server with just 1 player and the problem is within the servers, or the game is simply ported so badly to ps4 that it just isnt compatible and has nothing to do with megastructures of other players or full servers.

Maybe if you just reduce the graphics on ps4, like shadows and water effects.

It also seems that Torches of all kinds make the game totally bonkers for me.

New issue is that the game pauses when i run out of stamina pretty often. I run and right the moment stamina is depleted the game pauses for 2 seconds than it continues with the ā€œno staminaā€ message. Also the framerate now heavily tanks at dusk and dawn in game. Didnā€™t do this before.
It cannot be that a game pauses because of an ingame message or selecting a torch or just hover over the content of a chest or just for no reason.

BTW i just started an offline SP Game. This game runs off from my SSD. With the internal HDD this issue was even worse. And it gradually increases over time

This is half hour into the game. The game ran smoothly till than. At about 50 sec in the video you can see the pauses. They start to become more and more sever in length.

what is interesting though. I dont have these extreme pauses in PvE Online. There i have more of these micro stutters especially close to large buildings and the overall extreme network lag for enemies. But SP is completely unplayable this way. i donā€™t have issue of this kind in any other game.

5 days now since patch 1.39. Online game still broken as per my previous post. Unlike some other players I seem to have no issues playing Single Player even on Co-op, no lagging or rendering at all. This would possibly indicate that there are issues with the official servers. Still hoping the game gets a fix soon as I have put a fair bit of time into my character and would hate to lose what I have built. If nothing else a bit of an update as to what is being done to correct this would be appreciated.

i switched to single player local mode just because of the silly decay timers (Ark has at least 9 days for stone). Official server is dead again but i hate to give up my level 60 character; so i log in from time to time. on both servers i see NO change in PS4 pro performance, sound/animation disjoint still and serious lag always.

false hope being spread when yet again they are saying dev is looking into ways to improve the PS4 game.

give us a free copy for the PC with the PS4 version. this may solve some of the uncomfortable feelings we all now have for funcom.

The main issue Iā€™m having now is as soon as I hit a mat (whether it be stone, iron, tree, etc.) the node disappears and wonā€™t come back for at least a minute. This makes farming one stack of -insert any mat here- take a ridiculous amount of time.

Its actually hard to pinpoint the exact cause of it. The fact it is not happening this bad in PvE Online for me is not only difficult to comprehent it make no sense at all. In my video there is not much happening other than me running around harvesting a bit. In PvE Online there are big giant castles build by people with a lot of thralls and pets. The framerate starts to stutter but the game never pauses this bad like in the video i posted.

The game does this since i installed it in version 1.12 one month back on my internal HDD. By that time i had alot of other games installed. Games like HZD, Spiderman, Monster Hunter World, Shadow of War. Spiderman has a pretty detailed recreation of Manhatttan with alot of NPCs and Vehicles. Shadow of War you can fight hords of Orks. All no problem. Non of them have issues that would indicate a problem with my console.

A complete reinizialisation of the console with Conan being the sole game on my HDD didnā€™t change the outcome. Switching to an SSD did help with texture load in and invisible NPCS and overall quicker loading of the game and your base.
But even in this fresh state of my console now the game is unplayble in SP for me. It makes no sense. In my video i am alone with just the bit of building i put there no other players, no thralls no pets no other bases. there are pauses of 15 sec and more.
I would die to know what is actually causing it.
