Yeah, I have a staircase build on my private server near mounds of the dead and when I get a purge there 80% of it spawns inside the mountains.

Purges changed some time back and will target you no matter where you have normally built. If you have built over water where there’s no easy access, the Purge waves may likely spawn in on top/inside your base (always make sure there’s access to your base).
If you build on top of a pinnacle/mountain peak and there’s not even an easy place on top your base to spawn, you may even find the wave(s) spawning inside your base. You will usually get this moreso when you have open spaces inside the base perimeter.
This is unfortunate and vexing. But purges be cunning and, like a bad odour, will find a way in.
Yeah, but this is not that. That location is easily pathed to from various places on the map. The issue isn’t “we can’t find a place to spawn purge NPCs”, it’s that they’re choosing to spawn them in inaccessible or inappropriate locations. I’m not trying to prevent a purge from reaching me, I want the purge to attack me – not spawn in a cave that is 100m under the mesh or get stuck inside terrain.

You are playing solo, correct? Being so close (vertically) to that cave is very likely the gremlin in the woodpatch and messing with your Purge. For interest, are the cave occupants spawning in correctly?
I am 100% certain that’s what’s causing the problem; my point in the bug report is that it shouldn’t be. And it’s not close enough to interfere with normal spawns in the cave, there’s spiders for days down there.
When the game picks a place to spawn NPCs, it should be asking if the location it’s chosen is under/behind the mesh or a static object, or if it’s in a cave. If either of those are true, it needs to pick a new spot until it finds one. I can’t think of any reason why any purge NPCs should spawn inside a cave.

Indeed. Hopefully the official response to your buglog will cover/resolve your issue.

The purges are spawning in the mesh. That is a coding error, not a pathfinding problem.
If code would work properly, they would spawn on top of mountains instead of in it.
