very annoying that an aspect of the game that we want to partake in just wont work at all

Have pointed out in a few threads this happens on the public server I’m on, in the evenings while people are running purges. I’m leery of logging in after 3PM.

But I can’t get a purge to start on testlive now.

i just got one purge to work finally. ever since the hot fix the other day, i am now unable to even start a purge behind my walls. i had to put my coffer OUTSIDE my base for the attackers to have a path to it.

it worked for 5 minutes. satisfied that it didnt crash, i deleted the coffer to end it early. i was able to find one spot inside my base where the attackers could actually have a path to it. the purge started and guess what? crash!

so it seems the only way it works is if its not even in your base and completely defenseless in a wide open field. any time i get this thing started with the coffer behind my walls, the entire server crashes.

im going to move my melee thrall army somewhere far away from my base and put my coffer in the center of them so its essentially a battle in the field and not a siege. might be the only way to get it to work

Let us know if it works!

It works! I brought a small army of 30 thralls to the big field east of devils squat. Placed a coffer in the middle of them and started the purge. It worked and didnt crash my game or the server.

It basically becomes an open field battle instead of a siege, which is kinda cool in its own right, but still very unfortunate that purges cant be started in my actual base without the entire server crashing.

Im going to try building very minimally around my field coffer. Just some pallisades and other basic fortifications to try and funnel them into a kill zone.

As of right now though, starting the purge in an area with no player buildings has it work to completion with no crashes

This problem is not buildings. It’s total complexity of AI operations around the coffer. As soon as the AI cannot perform all decisions in one frame, it starts putting actions in a deferred queue. If the queue fills up, the server crashes.

Removing all the pathing choices cuts AI complexity down a lot, so purging in a field is one viable answer.

My clan’s coffer structure is very close to the max complexity. I took away thralls and parts until we could complete a purge without crashing the server. Then I added back four arrow thralls, and the server crashes again. Same for adding even one zombie. Same for adding four doors. Same for making one double path.

There’s no silver bullet. There are only things that help:

Reduce pathing complexity to your coffer by removing doors and double paths.
Get rid of zombies entirely.
Reduce as much as possible defending arrow thrall numbers.
Reduce the overall number of thralls, animals, and horses near the coffer.
Kill the enemy arrow guys first.
Set up your base so the purge camp is forced to spawn further away. Enemies running to your base consume very little AI; enemies piled up inside and archers shooting into your base use a lot of logic.
