A lot of requests/complaints regarding the state of PVP has as a premise that the game and Funcom must adapt to improve the PVP experience thru a series of nerfs or outright removals and it is all founded on a false premise; that Official servers are where PVP must be addressed.
Private servers run by the like minded players on PC can already address almost all the concerns that I’ve seen. Don’t like bombs or lances? Blacklist the feats. Want more moderation? The server owner would be much closer to the action and in a place to actively moderate with a more focused eye on what is actually happening and the limits of their hardware regarding lag. Want to avoid offline raiding? The admin can set the raid window (as well as a multitude of gameplay settings).
Adding mods to the mix can even make it even more to the liking of the players on a given server. Want more areas to build on? There’s a mod for that. Want to nerf thralls/pets’ damage multipliers? Mod for that. Want to eliminate fighting thralls entirely from being thralled? Mod for that. Want to ratchet up the survival aspect to make PVP raids more treacherous when raiding in bad weather? Mods for that (excellent ones).
Everything above can be addressed by the game as is and therefore doesn’t need base game changes. This maximizes the ability of all playstyles to have their desired experience which in the end can make the most players happy, and its what we have today.
I have omitted consoles for a reason. No they can’t mod as I have suggested, but they can switch to pc (as I did) to really make the game their own if they like.
So in case I wasn’t clear I will state my premise: CE players in general have all the tools available to make Conan Exiles to their liking and should take on the responsibility themselves where they can.
This is a basic server setting. At least in regards to player damage. I -think- you can adjust it separately for their damage to NPCs too.
There is actually very little in the PVP realm of things that you would need to mod the game to accomplish. Nearly every complaint or balance issue in regards to PVP has a server setting that can be altered. Its only exotic things such as your example about weather that takes a modding route.
I’d also like to point out that running the dedicated server hardware doesn’t require a paid service whatsoever. Using Steam you can filter your library by Tools and the Conan Exiles Dedicated Server software will show up and is already in your library (whether you own CE or not on Steam). It requires very little technical knowledge to get up and running.
Microsoft is about as serious at gaming as it was about cell phones. Remember the Zune?
Xbox is simply a pipe through which to drag all the great properties. The only successful Microsoft games were taken over by inner studios like Ensemble. (Everything M$ Touches Dies.)
It still doesn’t negate the fact that amateur admins are bad for the game.
That’s certaintly an opinion, and a bad one at that. Good job attempting to alienate the xbox community in your quest to delegitimize anything you disagree with. Not like CE is on gamepass and sees a large portion of players from it or anything.
Then you missed my initial point. Let me reiterate:
The top survival game of all time has no official servers, and is entirely run by “amateur admins”
I don’t believe that’s a fact at all. A common refrain is that the official admin actions are “abusing” people when it comes to bans. So if its so bad, people have an avenue to take it into their own hands. Especially if people have complaints about admins, nothing stops them from being the admin they desire and hosting their own server.
Every Xbox player knows it’s true. You have to live with the controls and kluge of Microsoft. It’s an underserved platform, and is insidiously underserved in order to drive players to the PC. It’s a sad state of gaming, and as a former console player a lamentable situation.
Please stop communicating with the bolds and stuff. You are either trolloing (again) or you’re deliberately missing the point. OP says no Official Servers. I say in that case we need professional Admins.
If I host a server, I cannot play on it. To do so would be terribly unprofessional on many levels, and I would expect few people would play on it as a consequence.
I actually did not say no officials. I’m saying if you dont like officials, you should consider privates (someone else’s or host your own) to customize to your liking.
Thanks for the clarification. I can simply extrapolate it: a player (like me) who is tired of the vagueness and is outraged at his friends being banned and insulted has no other recourse. This means The Great Diaspora has no choice but Privates. Thus the requirement of professional adminning.
I actually dont think thats the case either. An admin that wants to attract players just needs to act fairly, and the rest will sort it out. Ive also seen the complaint that FC doesnt play on its servers, so apparently its a split on whether people want admins on or not. An admin playing on a server will have skin in the game to make sure everything is working according to plan and easily identify the problem children. To me, that’s a huge plus.
They do. You have no regard for rules, actual terms of service, and contractual obligation under US and international law. Also, you clearly have no regard for communicating pleasantly, so consider yourself ignored.
Then nobody I know will play there. Why would you play against a stacked deck?
Show me where it says this? Please? Citation is absolutely needed.
Again, ironic. Insult the entire xbox community and then when you’re disagreed with oops time to deflect and ignore. It’s a public forum, and one you don’t have sole control over. You still haven’t given any real reasoning behind anything you’ve said, your only contribution to this thread was to insult anything that’s different from what you want and to deflect the root issue.
After a raid, sloth-based decay or other untimely loss:
I have never met a single admin who would not replace a player’s base materials to keep them playing.
Every admin I’ve ever experienced will roll the server back if they too are affected.
Once you gift mats to someone, you might as well do it yourself.
You simply can’t have skin in the game. I have lived by this myself, out of my own pocket through several bad hosts, @droch-aon and others can attest. In fact, I was very interested in joining an RP Server, but the Admin is playing and that’s a deal-breaker.
Yeah I’ve never done that personally. The only rollback I’ve ever done was because I in my admin capacity made a mistake that screwed the pooch for people as a whole, but I would never rollback for pvp reasons. Bad admins are a possibility yes, wouldnt deny that. This is why I host my own servers and am choosy about who I let on (would never do a free for all server, just too much headache). I do think though that when someone asks for FC to do things for officials, they need to check themselves and think about why they aren’t willing to take on the responsibility themselves. Its a thankless task where players accuse you of being bad/dishonest/not caring and that’s not going to feel good at all. For some reason players expect FC to do all the heavy lifting when they refuse to do it themselves. That bugs me. The game has a ton of flexibility for people who take initiative.
