I’ve been a long time player but just trying sorcery for the 1st time.
I built the Thaumaturgy bench and put a lvl 3 sorcerer in it.
I’ve upgraded my Tome once and learned the new spells.
The spells I know 2 Wisps, Soup Drain, ice bridge & reveal corruption.
Here’s my question.
When I look in the knowledge recipes section, it shows I know 5 spells, but when I use my staff only 3 appear.
A yellow, green & purple spell.
Where are the other 2?
Also, when I use the staff the icons in the spells don’t match what’s shown in the knowledge recipes section, and I only get vague idea of what they do.
Welcome to the wonderful world of sorcery, my fellow dark arts enthusiast! The knowledge shows all things you can do, not just spells. You know 3 spells but you can also perform 2 types of rituals at the special sacrificial stone which you now can build - gather sacrificial blood or capture a soul essence. Both require a worthless wild exile to be knocked out and brought to the altar first.
As for the icons - don’t mind them. Just reach the description of the runes that appear when you cast. With time you will memorize which does what and in what order
Soul Drain is not a spell. At least not one you use from the staff. It’s the method used to suck out and bottle the soul essence from a sacrifice on the sacrificial altar. You can then use those essences to corrupt your attributes. They are also an ingredient for the elixir of rebirth, which you’ll learn later.
As for the spells you cast from the staff, the first set that appears is actually the spell categories. You select one of them and that will take you to a menu in that category containing several spells and an option to escalate to the next tier in that category.
The wisp spells, for example, are I believe in the undeath (green) category. You select that and then pick which of the two wisp spells you want to cast. One sticks the wisp to a location, the other sticks it to you.
Reveal Corruption is in the purple category and works kind of like a locator for sorcerer NPCs. You’ll hear drum beats as you aim in the direction of a nearby sorcerer. I’m not sure if it’s actually has a use beyond that.
Ice bridge is under the elemental (yellow) category. Click the yellow rock, then click the rock for icy bridge and aim in the direction you want it to go. I think this one requires a burlap pouch to cast. You can make those at the alchemy bench or get them from enemy sorcerers.
And in before you delve deeper into the research and learn all of the wonderful spells and rituals, allow to share some secrets of some of my favorite spells:
Slow fall not only allows you to avoid any fall damage but it also makes you jump higher
You can control the direction of the ice bridge by looking up while casting
Mass cull can be used to gather meteorites without cracking the shell. And yes, this method works ALWAYS! unlike with those bugged meteors that don’t crack sometimes from arrows or fire orbs
The way sorcery works, any spells that appear in the feats menu should already be unlocked. They won’t appear at all if you haven’t unlocked them. The reason Kilix said don’t mind the icons is because they list everything you’ve unlocked, including spells and rituals that are used at the various sorcery crafting stations and not cast from the staff.
Any spell you have unlocked that can be cast from the staff will be listed among those floating rocks when you are casting. As you acquire spells, more rocks will be added to their respective categories. A small tooltip should appear as you hover the target reticle over each rune telling you what that rune/spell does and any casting requirements like a burlap or cloth bag or a certain level of corruption.
One more thing. If you upgrade the tome and don’t think you see anything new in your casting menu, check the sorcery section in your build menu to see if there’s a new bench you can craft. Or if you already have them crafted, check if there’s anything new in those. The summoning circle, for example, has a few steps while upgrading the tome where you learn to summon something new.
You need to build a thaumaturgy table. Place the book in its inventory and a recipe should appear telling you what you need. Just put the ingredients in and hit the craft button, just like you were crafting some armor or something.
There are several stages to the upgrade by the way, each requiring different ingredients. The recipe will change after each level to show what you need for each one.
I tried it and it didn’t work. All of the ingredients for the Tome of Kurak were in the bench, but the craft button was grayed out. I also tried admin spawning a new tome to no avail.
