Rented a server, can I change the name of the server?

So I rented a server with my wife and a few friends. And it would seem, only the two of us remain. I wanted to refocus the aim of the server to repopulate the server, so I did. I made a gladiator arena, with a working market. And it looks glorious.

Here’s the problem:

When I rented the server as a funny, because of what one of my friends said, we named the server: Luscious Locks.

I don’t want to use that name anymore I want it more oriented to the focus of the server.

Can I rename my server?

yes, you need to do it on the g-portal side.

Yes, but make sure you retype the password too. When I changed the name of mine, I didn’t retype the password and it became unlocked.

Can you elaborate please?

I have my server open I don’t want a lock on it, I’m trying to populate it, not hide it from people.

When you go to G-portal, go to basic settings.
there you can change the name. You will have to stop server and reset for it to take effect.

I’ll look into that thanks.

You change the name of your server using the web browser version of GPortal. Select the server which you want to change the name for and then select “Basic Settings”. This will prompt you to take your server offline. ANY changes you make to your server here requires your server to be taken offline. These changes are also more permanent - when a server restarts for any reason, any changes you do in the game on the console settings will be reverted back to the settings done here on the web login. I didn’t take our server offline to show you everything under the “Basic Settings” but you will see the server name change at the top. It takes approximately 5 - 15 minutes for a server to show back up on the list once you have made changes, SAVED them and then restarted the server. Server name changes are immediate.

@crynnalmonkey you have been most helpful with your descriptive assistance. It is most appreciated.

+1

You’re welcome, good luck with your server

Good joke, been live 2 weeks. People last a day before they quit.

Starting a server can take time! Just be patient and players will visit. It’s not required and just advice from experience - try adding some sort of community chat feature. We use Discord and it allows players to communicate outside of the game, voice their opinions, give us suggestions on what would work better on the server, escalate issues and most importantly offer feedback! Fair warning: it does take a little moderating at times but it can be really helpful. Another tip: take a look at the servers that are the same “mode” as yours (PVE, PVE-C or PVP) and then look at the ones that are the most populated. Usually their settings are why people go visit. Anyone can run a server but taking the added time to foster a community is what populates it.

I use the Xbox chat, I am on daily usually 14 hours. Not my first rodeo in running things:
I’ve been in charge of my own unit in the military, been clahn leader in multiple mmo’s on PC xbox and mobile, ran a squad for moba’s PC and Xbox.
And generally most of the time people don’t want to HAVE to download discord.

I have made it perfectly clear on my recruiting pages that I am an active empathetic admin and will do what I can and need, to improve the server.

Not arguing or contesting your advice, but do you have any other input that may help?

Btw my server is PVP slightly boosted.

Plus xbox has a community chat feature outside of the game. Just saying…

I’ve used this screen many times. And don’t have a section to change the server name. I guess I may have a different version of the website or something because I have read through every option on screen. None of which offer name change.

Also if you’re suggesting I click the big giant bold lettering to left of the screen and/or top middle of the screen, nothing happens.

Guess I’m doomed to keep this subpar name. Thanks though!

I did find a section in the xbox app titled G-Portal that says “give your server a name” I did, typed in a password, turned on the server it was still named the original name. But it was locked. I went back to the app, changed the name again, and removed the password, in changes to the name but it was unlocked.

You don’t have to give your resume to me. You simply said people last a day and quit and that you hadn’t really had membership. I only offered advice which has a couple hundred players on our Discord and many more passing through the server. Xbox chat is good, but limited in features just like it is in characters (500 or less). Discord offers features like individual sub-channels, logging for as long as the channel is active, voice chat, website integration and the fun stuff: BOTS. For example, our community economy is run by bots.

So, it seems you’re a little flustered and I’ll go ahead and leave your thread alone. As I said, good luck with your server. My extra advice: be more open minded.
