No love the challenge…it gets the idea better.
F my ego
I like the idea of more detail in the religions, but the idea of jealous gods that preclude worship of each other, I don’t like at all. It really doesn’t fit at all with the lore imo. That’s an idea from the real world. The gods in REH are more like members of families of gods that live in specific places. Conan for example travels a lot so swears by Crom, Mitra and Ishtar and others in the stories. He assumes they’re all real and you can worship all of them without contradiction.
Some gods do have particular alliances and enmities though… I’m pretty sure Set and Mitra are opposed, and Set and Derketo are allied (married?)
Maybe an idea would be that you can only have one high priest feat at a time? So you can worship all the gods, but you can only be granted the True Name of one god.
See idea gets better. I love this.
I see little reason to add bonus or negatives… Its already featured game-play wise as a free for all. (as is Exile Lands)
Out of anything… Crom should get something, (within Lore…) just so it fits.
On one hand…these are not “Gods” there images of what people think Gods are. (Conan Worded it better)
So why not give Crom users something? =p (but hey, beating the the ashes and ground a dead horse once was)
If your really wanna crack down on multi use… just make it so you can only believe in one. No need to add extra steps. Just keep it simple…
But then a Clan can just multi task every ones roles. There goes that fun… Nothing like Guild/Clan Boss telling you your the “Zath Guy” when you wanted Yog…
You Can’t really limit to a Clan… whats point in all freedoms.
There sticking to Lore… then there having Fun.
Fun needs to be there, or its…well…Not Fun.
Well in this case, the way it is with the multiple gods fits with the lore. So it’s lore friendly and it’s fun.
There’s two issues to overcome.
- People want to be all religions at once.
- People want it easy.
You have learnt well my apprentice.
More generally, I would argue that when we consider the plethora of goodies the other gods have at their disposal in Conan Exiles, I don’t feel that some more Crom items is an unreasonable request in the slightest. And a flat stats bonus as you just suggested is a damn good idea, when we consider that Crom grants his followers “the power to strive and slay”, and the Cimmerians are renowned for their hearty constitution and formidable prowess in battle. But I would also argue that there is sufficient lore to support more physical items such as weapons (we already have a couple), as well as armor and placeables. Im happy to debate this and directly cite lore references too for that matter.
How about if as long as you choose from the beginning as you religion and have no other god feats at all you get a massive buff to survivial, and grit to represent extreme self reliance and toughness of going it alone following the embodiment of Crom ?
Maybe people shouldn’t get it all their own way. I mean who knows the mind or will of a God? Certainly not us mortals!
I think if you use an avatar-token, there should be a risk associated with it, maybe you get a curse, instead of a boon. Maybe it backfires on you?
Maybe this risk increases the more times you use it? (after all I can’t imagine a God being thrilled at being constantly summoned by us mere mortals whenever we feel like it)
Aside from Avatars, maybe we could summon a kind of cultist purge, so you can suddenly have allies (could be useful in defence as well as for attack)
Your ideas sound fun, especially the last ones. Sorry about that , for some reason “fun” did get added after I posted the reply.
Percentage based on how many avatars you summoned (say 5% per avatar increase to get curse vs boon) and how many other alters you have up (10% per other religion alter).
Perhaps we should be able to initiate curses or plagues:
So, for Set, it could be a plague of snakes , for Derketo it could be like a kind of miasma of some kind which rises from the ground (which either poisons or corrupts your health bar)
For Mitra it could be a meteor or lightning strike (similar to star metal)
For Jebel Sag a wave of animals of some kind, or maybe an attack of those flying bat creatures.
For Ymir, the entire area could suddenly drop in temperature, and you’ll start getting frostbite.
For the most recently added God (whose name escapes me right at this second) a plague of spiders.
For Yog , maybe undead hyenas / skeletons or a tonne of those exploding imps heh… dunno have to think of this one more… (tricky one Yog)
For Crom, well, you’re outta luck, lol
Would be fun launching a few curses at peeps ( I see them being easier to obtain than Avatars)
@Crompox, @Sairdontis & @erjoh.
Gentlemen I like the way you think. And here is the thing; adding more in-game functionality for Crom is not as far flung, or detatched from Conan lore as many people may initially think. So let us explore one of the three possibilities as to what may occur if the player were to build something which may be either dedicated to Crom, or otherwise potentially draw his attention:
1) Crom does not care and does nothing. There is lore to support this, from the Expanded Universe AND Robert E Howard works which I can quote to support this outcome. In which case there is no reason why players should be unable to build items as a tribute or show of allegiance to him.
2) Crom is resentful, and attempts to destroy the offending person and/or artifacts. From lore perspective it is feisable, arguably even probable. But from a game mechanics perspective, this could make things even more exciting and interesting. How? By making anything which the player generates either hazardous or harmful to the player. For example, I have previously suggested that any artifacts the player builds could result in the player I) getting hit by lightning II) taking on a stack of noxious debuffs such as poison, bleed, sunder, etc III) the item could emit corruption IV) the player could simply drop dead, like we do when removing the bracelet V) it could result in fiendishly challenging, high tier enemies spawning in to kill the player, ie-a Crom ‘purge’. Number ‘V’ was originally slated to be an actual game feature, but it didn’t make it into the game.
3) Crom does something to grant the player a boone. Highly improbable, yes I know. But I had to cover all possibilities.
